I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University was established in 1977 as Punjab Technical University, and was later renamed in 2015 in honour of Sh. Inder Kumar Gujral, former Prime Minister of India. It offers courses in Technology, Management, Pharmaceutical, and more from various disciplines.

Punjab Technical University Freeship Schemes
The freeship scheme is implemented for the students of IKGPTU Main Campus and Constituent Campuses for the session 2024-25.
- For the benefit of Parent Less student (PLS), Father Less Student (FLS), Special Abled Student (SAS) and Low Income Group Students (UGS).
- A sum of rupees one crore shall be kept reserved for this scheme. The students of Punjab shall be given preference under this scheme.
- The preference for giving benefits shall be in the following order:
- Parent Less Student (PLS),
- Father Less student (FLS),
- Special Abled student (SAS),
- Low-Income GrouP Students (LIGS)
Note: The annual income of the family of a student applying for the scholarship should be less than INR 2.5 lakh.

The University offers the following facilities to cater to the needs of the students as well as faculty members:
Central Library: The three floored library is inter connected, centrally air conditioned, with a seating capacity of more than 500 readers at a time and is well connected and easily approachable from all the departments of the university. The library’s independent building is also near completion and by the year 2017 the library would shift into its independent building.
Computer Centre: The University has a well-equipped, fully air-conditioned Computer Laboratory with leased line Internet facility, Wi-Fi campus, and convenient printing and scanning resources.
Auditorium: The University has two well equipped air-conditioned seminar halls fitted with multimedia projectors and audio-visual systems, having a seating capacity of 150 and 100. A University auditorium with seating capacity of 800 is under construction.
Hostel Accommodation: The University provides accommodation to students studying in different departments at the university campus. Residences (Boys’ Hostel, Girls’ Hostel 01 & Girls’ Hostel 02) located at its main campus are within walking distance from the academic wing. Transportation Facility: A fleet of buses is available for the convenience of students. University bus routes for students are from Beas, Jalandhar Cantt., Kartarpur, Kishanpura Chowk, and more.
Sports Facilities: The Sports Department organises the annual activities under the guidance of the sports council of the University. In an academic session, I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University organizes various sports activities on the campus. The University also participates in different Inter-Varsity games. The Publication Bureau is engaged in publication of translated books in Science and Engineering. It was established primarily for the development and enrichment of Punjabi language. Is ptu govt or private?
Punjab Technical University or PTU was established by an Act of the State Legislature on 16th January 1997. The primary purpose was to promote technical, management, and pharmaceutical education in the state at degree level and above. Initially, it was established as Punjab Technical University and later renamed as I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University by the State Government in honor of Late Sh. Inder Kumar Gujral, Former Prime Minister of India, in 2015.
The University has set up many centers of excellence for promoting training, research, and development in these areas. The university offers a number of courses in different streams regular as well as distance education courses.
So, PTU is a government-based University and not a private engineering college.

You have to fill in the Application for duplicate DMC in PTU and attach the following documents
- Photocopies of all result notifications/DMCs (as the case may be) duly attested by the Principal of the concerned College/Institute.

One of my friends in PTU struggled for around 2 years to get the result and mark sheets of his BCA degree. Sharing his experience, he told me that getting a mark sheet for a regular course was easier than for a Distance one. The institute does not offer the distance course anymore and the ex-students find it very difficult to procure the transcripts. Here are two ways you can try if you are stuck in a similar situation
- Through the support center: You will be glad to know that PTU has a support center where you can sign up directly. All you need to do is raise a ticket for your queries and the support center will assist you in solving the query. My friend did the same and he was informed about the process of getting transcripts within 1-2 working days. He had to pay Rs- 200/- through the demand draft as a postal charge and your mark sheets will be delivered to your given address.
- Visiting the campus : Ask your LC to visit the University Campus to sort out the issue. In case he refuses to go, you can personally visit the campus along with the required documents. You might even get mark sheets on the spot once all the formalities are done.

Can we leave a PTU college after the first year of B.Tech?
You can definitely leave your college after the first year of B.Tech.
You can also migrate to another PTU college. But there are some conditions for that. One of them is that you must have cleared all your subjects in the first year. I would recommend you consult your college staff for details on the migration process. Additionally, do visit the official PTU website for rules and regulations on migration.
I want to transfer from PTU to Chandigarh university. will that be possible though I'm studying in 1 year and I want to join from 2 year?
It’s quite difficult to get a transfer from PTU to Chandigarh University. If you want to take admission to Chandigarh University then, you might have to cancel your admission first and then apply there.
Both PTU and Chandigarh University are independent universities and there is no link between them. Also, Chandigarh University is not even affiliated with PTU, so joining in the 2nd year is not possible.
But in case you're a diploma student then you can join in the 2nd year of Engineering. However, if you wish, you can sit for the first year again.
Does NSIT Dwarka and PTU allow lateral entry in civil engineering?
Lateral entry is not applicable for government engineering colleges that follow the JAC Delhi admission process. So NSUT does not allow lateral entry for any of the B.Tech branches, including Civil.
On the other hand, PTU has the provision of lateral entry into Civil Engineering. But the requirement for the same is a polytechnic diploma in Civil.
Is it okay if you apply for both graduation and post graduation transcripts from same account of PTU?
It is absolutely fine, given that you did both your grad and post grad from PTU. The process of WES evaluation has changed for PTU. You can no longer send the documents on your own. Only the university can send your transcripts.
Can migration be done if a student has one supply in PTU?
Yes, you can migrate even with a supply at PTU. For this, you need to get an NOC from your college. This is the most important task. After that, you need to file a migration request at PTU. You’ll be charged around Rs. 10,000. After this process, you can migrate to your new college.
