Delhi University, M.A EAST ASIAN STUDIES

Remarks

This department is an excellent department and unlike any other department and colleges, it doesn't have any internal politics. It is true and honest there is no biasedness. The ones who deserve get and those who don't deserve are given nothing it is as pretty amazing department.

Entrance Preview

For this course, the university of Delhi, department of eas Asian studies conducts it's own entrance examination, which consist of written exam of 75 marks and interview for 25 marks. There are just 40 seats available in the course. I got the 19th rank in the entrance examination. I opted for this College because it is the only university in India which provides the masters degree in this course, the other university for this course is JNU-Delhi, but that offers the degree of M.Phil. There are just two universities in India which offers this course and both these universities are the best.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

In this course we have to study about the three major powers of east asia, which are China, Japan and Korea. Initially we have to study about all the aspects of ask these countries, including a any one language from these three countries. The language will be of our choice but from second year onwards we will specialize in any one particular country, i.e. Either China or Japan or Korea.

Internships Opportunities

In our course it is not the internship which matters we often get scholarship opportunities to go and study in those countries, and it is that what matters the most. We are much more inclined towards higher educations and research work. But this there are several think tanks and the embassies of these countries which recruit students on monthly basis for internship purposes.

Placement Experience

4.5

Various think tanks come to our department to recruit students, on packages of seven to eight lakhs initially. Plus students are also recruited abroad in various multi national companies and also as translators in various companies in India. But as I said the main focus of our department in research, so we give less emphasis on placements and more on the higher education arms research work.

College Events

4

We organise seminars, there is a Monday seminar series which is held on every alternate monday, plus we also have cultural programs where we present the culture of east Asia.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Very cheap, it is just around rip rupees three thousand and eight hundred only, per annum which is like very cheap and can be afforded by any one. There is also included one thousand as library security which will be returned back to you after you pass out from the course. The second year is even more cheaper, where we don't have to pay the extra thousand bugs of security money and the fees is nearly two thousand and five hundred.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are scholarships provided by the ministry of HRD to go abroad and study there are various scholarships provided by the government of those countries from east asia.

Campus Life

4

The campus life of delhi university is quite famous and need no special reference. There is a fest season where students from all footnotes of, India come and participate. Erin prices, there are programs, celebrity shows, actors and singers come and perform in those fests. There are various stalls put up by our department in モAntrdhwani", the fest of Delhi university. If we talk about gender ratio then in our department girls are much more than boys it's like one boy every five girls we are but very United.

Hostel Facilities

5

The hostel is provided by the university it is a combined hostel for all the courses of the university. It is given on merit basis and the fees are very nominal, which is five thousand four hundred rupees per quarter and two thousand five hundred per month is the mess charge. The hostel is very large and beautiful.

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors are very helpful and friendly, the guide us like mentors and be there by our sides as friends. There are these top support you in every hour of the day they guide you, provide you with every thing you need. Give you suggestions plus also be there there in times of need as a true and genuine friend and support.

Exam Structure

We have internal assessment of thirty marks where we have to submit assignments, term paper, books reviews etc, as instructed by the professors. In those thirty marks we have five marks for attendance. Then we have exam of seventy marks the course is divided into four semesters the attendance is compulsory, but still the course is not very hectic.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty off our department is extremely helpful and highly knowledgeable, very keen in their fields, all perfectly trained. Some professors are recruited directly from those countries for our better understanding of the country, where as the others have been to those countries atleast once for being trained academically.

Delhi University - [DU], Master of Arts [MA] (East Asian Studies)
Reviewed on Jan 17, 2024(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course considering my interest in East Asian culture and Languages. The Faculty: Student ratio is 1:40 and most of the professors are Ph.D scholars. The teaching method comprises reading books and learning after it which stipulates the form of an ancient education system like any other mediocre Indian University. "An important factor to consider is that faculty sometimes fell short due to a shortage of subject masters(or should I say language) For example, Chinese faculty is much in number and experience than Korean and Japanese while the latter suffer the incompetency of the number of faculty. Term exams happened to be very fast but it was due to the internal issues that remain consistent in DU and except that there would be tons of Internal Assessments that play a major role in one's SGPA. Exam level - Hard!

Course Curriculum Overview:

I was interested in knowing more about the politics of the country, additionally, it was going to help me out with my UPSC optional. Though the faculty-student ratio has increased now, still professors are easily accessible to discuss. One can approach their chambers, also each student gets an academic advisor allotted. The faculty here is one of the best in the country, even overseas. That is the foremost reason why students want to be here. The teaching method is very impersonal, where Faculty itself has the power to design the syllabus and assess them as they want. The course is not easy, and rigorous and one should engage properly in the readings to write good answers and develop a deep understanding. Centre for political studies (CPS) takes two mid-semester exams and one end-semester exam in a semester.
