NITK is a very cool college. It provides students with the opportunity to learn and have fun at the same time.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum for environmental engineering is well crafted. It consists of designs of different units, basics of environmental engineering and also includes labaratory practicals. 1 month internships and a one year long major project is also a part of the curriculum.
Placement Experience
Placements are very well above average for the under graduates. All the circuit branch students are mostly placed by their final year. I have not been placed in any company.
College Events
NITK hosts a wide range of events during an academic year. Onam is a major event. Holi and diwali are also very lively. The technical fest (Engineer) however is a major let down. There is not much focus on the technical fest. Incident (Cultural Fest) is very lit. Independence Day Republic Day November 1st.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is different for the under grads and post grads. For the post grads the institute fees comes around rupees 54000 for a single semester. There is a slight variation in the even and odd sem. Give or take rupees 3000. It is a little bit on the expensive side.
Fees and Financial Aid
There was no kind of scholarship available to me. Mostly this was because we were paid stipend every month during our course period. This prevented most of us from availing additional scholarships.
Campus Life
The campus life overall is very lively. We have a private beach. This makes the campus a lot more exciting. NITK hosts and takes part in a lot of competitions including inter-NIT sports. Intra sports and cultural events are also an integral and exciting part of the life of students.
Hostel Facilities
I stayed in the hostels for my period of 2 years there. The first year hostel accommodation was not very welcoming. 3 people were asked to share a 2 person room. It was congested. Plus the mess provided only veg food. The second year we shifted to single rooms in another hostel. Here the food waa much better.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni have helped some students to get a job and internships. The alumni network is somewhat strong. There are a lot of alumni meetings happening in the college throughout a year.
Admission
The admission process was through graduate aptitude technical exam (GATE). For a civil engineering graduate with a decent gate score can get an Mtech admission either in the civil engineering department or in the department of applied mechanics. There are a total of 8 post graduate courses for a civil graduate to choose from.
Faculty
The faculty are well qualified and knowledgeable in their respective fields. All the faculty are post graduates and more than 90% have completed a PhD in their fields. They make sure to complete their portions and make students better equipped to tackle the industrial era.
