Remarks
The college has a great faculty, alumni base and international reputation. The placements are awesome and research is good. Campus life is beautiful. The campus is located in outskirts of town. No shopping complex or a good restaurant. This also hampers placements a little.
Course Curriculum Overview
I think the course curriculum is a little outdated especially the labs. Teachers are good. Exams are easy too. A week's preparation is enough. Exam schedule differs for every sem. Usually it isn't hectic.
Placement Experience
The job and placement opportunities are great. Several companies come to recruit in diverse fields, core, non-core I.e. programming, ML and DA, consultancy and Finance. You can choose any of these fields and will always find someone to guide you thourough. Also you can take a project under any prof and continue working on that and publish papers and opt for higher studies. The IIT tag helps a lot. The internship are not loaded and mostly well paid.
College Events
We have technical fest, Kshitij, and cultural fest, spring fest. Other than that we have many departmental fests. Events are conducted by Entrepreneurship cell and Alumni cell too. There are more fests in second sem. Then there's also inter IIT events
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees are a little high. But there are scholarships to aid you. It can go as far as one lakh fifty thousand approx. Other than fees the cost of living here is very cheap. For people of reserved categories, the subsidies are there.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are some scholarships awarded by private organisations, government and alumni base to students who fulfil their criteria. College specifically, doesn't provide any aid. Scholarships for foreign training etc are provided by IR cell.
Campus Life
There are many societies related to debating, music and singing, dance, dramatics, photography and film making, robotics, open-sourcing, soft skills, fests etc that aim at developing the skills of students who join them in first or in some cases the second year. Sports facility in really great. We have a court for all sports and stadiums too. The administration invests a lot in these. Labs are okay but a little outdated. It will be changed soon as per rumours. There are also societies for gay community students and to fight homophobia and soreD knowledge about it. Gender ratio is improving due to women's reservation. There are also many ethnic groups. No cases of discrimination on the basis of caste, religion, sex, etc have ever surfaced.
Hostel Facilities
There are different types of room in different halls. Mostly they are big enough in men's halls but not so in women's halls. There can be as high as triple sharing. Washourooms are clean and are regularly cleaned by staffs. Food is not so good.
Alumni/Alumna
There are a lot of funds aided to university and some scholarships awarded by alumni base to students who fulfil their criteria. They also contribute in hostels infrastructure. Scholarships for foreign training etc are provided by some alumni too. They also developed our Management school.
Admission
I had to give JEE MAINS followed by JEE Advanced to get selected. I had a decent rank and chemical engineering was the best branch I was getting and Kharagpur is near to my native place so I preferred this.
Faculty
I think other than a handful, most of the profs here are masters of their subject. The research work is good. They are mostly very helpful, approachable and understanding. They help a lot in getting internships and jobs, also projects and FT.
