My College

Everything has pros and cons. My college has great exposure and opportunities but the system is quite corrupted or I should say not co-operative as everyone knows how government systems work. The staff at the office is always too lazy to do anything. So things take more time than it should take. It can be quite torturous sometimes.

Curriculum is up to date and the syllabus mainly matches the GATE exam syllabus so it's quite helpful. About the exams, minor exams of 30 marks are held two times a semester and then a major exams of 50 marks is held at the end of the semester. 20 marks are for internal assessment. And if there is a practical subject then 50 marks for that.

Placements for Computer Science and IT Engineers are commendable. I would say it's nearly 100%. Also for Electronics it's great. But, there are very less mechanical engineering companies that visit our college. Also in biotechnology, no core companies visit so we have to compete with other branches for some IT companies like Infosys and some consultancies like ZS associates, etc.

There are many events carried out all over the year in our college. There are many clubs formed like drama club , DebSoc ( Debating Society), TPC( Training and Placement Cell), MagBoard, etc. So events are also based on these clubs and organised by them only. There's a club of biotechnology branch too and they also conduct many events. Also UIET's cultural fest is also held in February or March every year. Then mechanical people also hold an event of car racing making their own cars.

Fees is around 80k- 90k per annum. It's quite expensive as Panjab University being a government body charging this much fees is not feasible. The chemical engineering department in Panjab University has very less fees than UIET does. So compared to them it's quite expensive.

Scholarships are given in our college but you should have prior knowledge about them. I think the Economically Weaker Section people get some scholarship in the tuition fees and hostel too. Schedule Tribe and Schedule Caste students also get some scholarship. There is a Rotary club which provides scholarship too. But dates need to be taken care of. And information too.

Extracurricular activities are held across the year you just have to be the type to participate. There are many computer labs but I don't know if all the systems work. Biotechnology department has 4 labs in all and equipments are there but the technicians are not so cooperative. Also, sometimes we don't get what we need for experiments.

Hostels are really nice. I love PU hostels. It has all kinds of facilities like washing machines to geasers to great rooms with lots of space. Two people have to share a room. The old hostels are not that spacious but new ones especially in South Campus are nice. And food is also great. Plus hostel accommodation is quite inexpensive.

We can contact our Alumni but I have not contacted anyone yet so I don't know much about them. And seniors are helpful unless they need help themselves. They can give you their notes if you ask and help you with whatever they know. So that's not a problem

After 12th exams, one has to give the JEE Mains exam and based on their All India Ranking admissions are given in our college. But the important part is to take part in the JAC Counselling which is a joint Counselling for UIET, Chandigarh, UIET Hoshiarpur, PEC, CCET Chandigarh. And based on your ranking and preference of college and different branches of engineering, one will get admission. So choice filling and referencing needs to be done very carefully. Then you will be called for Counselling if you get the seat. There are 3 rounds of counselling and then a spot round at last. So make sure to attend till last. Also they make you pay the fees of 1st semester online before the Counselling date if you are called for the Counselling. Which is totally refundable if you do not get a seat. After you get a seat, your original documents are verified and then you can apply for hostel accommodation which is given on the base of ranking. Then you can go to college to confirm your admission and start the classes.

Faculty is quite experienced, knowledgeable and highly qualified. Ofcourse some of them are strict and some extremely chilled out so there's a balance. Teaching methods may also include presentations and books. Notes are also provided sometimes and teachers are very helpful.
