There is a difference, but it's negligible. This isn't because Power and Automation students aren't good enough. The difference arises mainly because many companies are either unaware of the two EE branches or perceive one as more specialized. As a result, some companies don’t even recruit for Power and Automation, even though they do for Engineering Physics. The situation has improved significantly in recent years, but a gap still exists.

There are only 3–4 core courses that differ between EE1 and EE3 (P&A), and they are essentially the same branch. The different courses include:

  • Communication Engineering (core for EE1)
  • Engineering Electromagnetics (core for EE1)
  • Embedded Systems (core for EE3)
  • Power Engineering-2 (core for EE3)

Almost every student in the ECE B.Tech program got placed.

However, a few students didn't secure jobs, but they typically opt for higher studies.

Here are the salary packages:

  • Highest salary offered: nearly 90 LPA
  • Lowest salary offered: 8 LPA
  • Average salary package: [information missing]

Overall, the placement scenario is quite strong!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering Power and Automation offers a strong balance between core engineering and coding, leading to impressive placements, with an average package of around 15 lakhs and top offers reaching 3-4 crores. In comparison, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering has a slightly higher average package of 20-25 lakhs, with about 80% of students getting placed, but their highest package is lower at 2-3 crores. Both colleges provide solid internship opportunities, but IIT Delhi’s reputation and higher top packages might give its students an edge. If you’re more inclined towards a blend of coding and engineering, IIT Delhi is the better pick; if you’re looking for slightly higher average packages and a strong electronics focus, IIT Kharagpur could be ideal.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering Power and Automation offers a solid mix of core and coding-related job opportunities, with impressive placement stats—average packages around 15 lakhs and top offers reaching up to 4 crores. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering provides a slightly higher average package of 20-25 lakhs and a higher placement rate of about 80%, which is great for those leaning towards tech startups or UPSC paths. Both colleges have vibrant campus life and strong faculty, but I personally lean towards IIT Kharagpur for its slightly better placement stats and broader options. If you’re more inclined towards coding and tech, go for IIT Delhi; but if you want a balance with a strong job market, IIT Kharagpur is the way to go.

If you're getting into Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi, placements shouldn't even be a concern. Even students from textile engineering secure great placements. It’s IIT DELHI! Power and Automation is a solid branch. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to explore other minors and electives. After four years, if you want to enter core electrical or software companies (most B.Tech graduates lean towards analyst, consulting, finance, etc.), you’ll find ample opportunities. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
