The choice between IIT Delhi B.Tech in Electrical Engineering and IIT Kharagpur B.Tech + M.Tech in Chemical Engineering really hinges on your interests and location preferences.

  • Placement-wise, IIT KGP in Electrical Engineering is a stronger option. There are numerous core jobs as well as opportunities in CS. Plus, there's significant scope in consulting and finance. The growth potential is tremendous if you choose this path.
  • But remember, there's no such thing as a free lunch. You need to put in the effort to seize these opportunities. If you're not ready to study hard after getting into IIT, these prospects won't mean much.
  • On the flip side, if you have a genuine passion for Chemical Engineering, opting for IIT Delhi makes sense. The placements for Chemical students are excellent, but again, hard work is essential here too.
  • If you're considering entrepreneurship, UPSC CSE, CAT, etc., then IIT Delhi is the way to go.

I hope this helps clarify your decision! All the best! :)

Choose based on your interests, not what others say.

  • If you enjoy Maths, Physics, and Chemistry ? go for Chemical Engineering.
  • If you prefer only Maths and Physics ? opt for Electrical Engineering.
  • If you want to explore communication later, pick EE; you can transition from EE to ECE.

IIT Delhi’s B.Tech in Electrical Engineering and IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech + M.Tech in Chemical Engineering both have their merits, but when it comes to fees and ROI, IIT Delhi might be the smarter financial choice. While IIT Delhi has a reputation for excellent faculty and a strong placement record with around 88% of students getting placed, it does come with higher fees, which could be a burden for middle-class families. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's combined degree program may provide more value in terms of time and cost, but the teaching quality seems less impressive.

If you’re looking for a solid placement and are passionate about electrical engineering, IIT Delhi is worth the investment. However, if you want a broader scope in chemical engineering and a potentially better long-term financial return with an M.Tech, then IIT Kharagpur might be the way to go.

Both IIT Delhi for B.Tech in Electrical Engineering and IIT Kharagpur for B.Tech + M.Tech in Chemical Engineering offer unique experiences. IIT Delhi has a strong reputation and a rigorous curriculum focused on problem-solving, with a decent campus life featuring various cultural activities and clubs. However, the faculty-to-student ratio isn't the best, and while placements are good, they might not match the broad array of opportunities IIT Kharagpur provides, especially for students looking to specialize further with an M.Tech.

If you want a focused engineering experience with a vibrant campus, choose IIT Delhi. But if you're interested in a combined degree that can open up more diverse career paths, IIT Kharagpur would be the better option.
