IIT Delhi is the better choice, not just because it's closer to home, but because you don't have a specific interest. In that case, IIT Delhi is the best option for you!

Here’s why:

  • Flexibility: At IIT, you can explore various subjects. You can even take computer science courses while being in the chemical engineering branch.
  • Opportunities: IIT Delhi offers a wide range of electives and interdisciplinary programs.
  • Networking: Being in a top-tier institution like IIT Delhi opens doors to numerous connections and opportunities.

So, if you're unsure about your path, IIT Delhi is definitely the way to go!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers a rigorous curriculum focusing on high-level math and computing, with high-paying internships, especially in quant firms, often leading students to lucrative offers post-graduation. Meanwhile, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech + M.Tech in Chemical Engineering could provide a broader engineering perspective but might not match the immediate financial ROI of IIT Delhi's program, especially in terms of initial salary packages and placement stats.

The tuition fees are comparable, but the potential for higher stipends and placement success at IIT Delhi makes it a smarter financial choice for those leaning towards tech and finance careers. If you love math and are excited about high-tech industries, go for IIT Delhi; if you're more inclined towards chemical engineering and a dual degree, Kharagpur could be your path.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing is a powerhouse for placements, especially in tech and quant firms, with top companies like Microsoft and Jane Street offering phenomenal packages, sometimes hitting 4 crores. The rigorous curriculum prepares you well for high-stakes roles, and internships here also come with impressive stipends. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech + M.Tech in Chemical Engineering provides a solid foundation in a more traditional field but may not match the explosive growth and salary potential seen in tech and quant roles. If you're inclined towards mathematics and tech, IIT Delhi is the clear winner for job prospects and higher packages. However, if you're passionate about chemical engineering and see yourself in that domain, IIT Kharagpur is still a reputable choice.

IIT Delhi’s B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing is an excellent choice if you're passionate about both mathematics and computer science, offering a rigorous curriculum and impressive placement stats with major tech firms and quant roles, plus a vibrant campus life. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech + M.Tech in Chemical Engineering provides a solid engineering foundation with the bonus of an integrated master’s degree, but it may not attract the same level of tech-focused internships as IIT Delhi.

Personally, I would pick IIT Delhi for its cutting-edge opportunities in tech and finance, vibrant campus activities, and strong faculty, making it a better fit for anyone aiming for a dynamic career in those fields. If you prefer a more traditional engineering route with a built-in master's, then IIT Kharagpur could be the way to go.

Hello Chaitanay! I hope you are doing well in these challenging times. I will do my best to answer your question. I hope it helps!

Let’s get straight to it. If you live near Delhi, you might want to consider Mathematics and Computing at IIT KGP/BHU. Being close to home means you might feel tempted to go back often. This could limit your experience of hostel life and exploring new opportunities. Plus, your parents might visit frequently, which can affect your independence. This is just my perspective, but yours may differ!

Now, looking at the departments, Mathematics and Computing is a solid choice if you don’t have a specific interest yet.

  • Mathematics and Computing shares many courses with Computer Science.
  • There are more internships and job opportunities in this field.
  • The subjects are engaging, and this department is gaining popularity.

So, I recommend going for Mathematics and Computing at IIT KGP. IIT KGP has a better ranking than IIT BHU, making it a more attractive option.

However, if you prefer IIT Delhi, then Chemical Engineering could be a good fit. Ultimately, it depends on what you value more!
