If you're getting admission to Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi, placements shouldn't even be a concern. Even students from textile engineering secure great placements. It’s IIT DELHI! Power and Automation is a solid branch. There will be plenty of opportunities to explore other minors and electives. After four years, if you still want to enter core electrical or software companies (most B.Tech graduates end up in analyst, consulting, finance, etc.), you’ll have ample opportunities. Trust me, you won’t regret this choice!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Power and Automation) offers a more lucrative career path with impressive placement statistics, boasting an average package of around 15 lakhs and top offers reaching 3-4 crores. The internship opportunities here can also lead to significant earnings, which is a big plus. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering has a slightly higher average package of 20-25 lakhs, but the highest package caps at about 3 crores, and the overall placement rate is a bit less competitive. If you’re leaning towards a strong connection with tech and coding along with robust job prospects, IIT Delhi is the way to go. However, if you have a passion for materials science and are okay with slightly lower placement rates, IIT Kharagpur could be a solid choice.

The choice between IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Power and Automation) and IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering really hinges on your interests, aspirations, and the career path you envision.

  • 1. If you’re inclined towards jobs in the software and finance sectors, then Mathematics and Computing is the way to go. Students in this field often secure some of the highest packages during placement season, second only to Computer Science in any IIT. Plus, there’s ample opportunity for higher studies. So, consider Mathematics and Computing at IIT Kanpur; you’ll likely land a well-paying job in finance or software.
  • 2. If you have a passion for nano sciences, nano composites, or are simply research-oriented, then Metallurgy at IIT Bombay or Materials Science at IIT Kharagpur would be a great fit.
  • 3. Avoid Textile at IIT Delhi if your ultimate goal is a job in the IT industry; you can reach that goal from various paths.
  • 4. Also, consider Electronics and Mechanical Engineering at IIT BHU as viable options.

Ultimately, it all comes down to your interests!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, with its strong focus on both core and coding jobs, seems like a great choice, especially considering the lucrative internship opportunities that can lead to impressive pre-placement offers. The campus life at IIT Delhi is vibrant with numerous fests and events, which adds to the overall experience. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering also offers a well-structured curriculum and strong placement stats, with higher average packages than IIT Delhi. If you're leaning towards engineering jobs in tech or automation, IIT Delhi is the way to go. However, if you're interested in materials science and a balanced academic life with solid placement prospects, IIT Kharagpur might suit you better. Personally, I would pick IIT Delhi for its dynamic environment and better integration of coding with engineering.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering offers a solid ROI with an average package of around 15 lakhs and potential internship earnings up to 25 lakhs, but it comes with a higher tuition fee. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering has a lower tuition fee of about 1 lakh and boasts an average package of 20-25 lakhs, making it more affordable with great placement opportunities. Both colleges provide scholarships, but IIT Kharagpur’s fees are notably less, giving it an edge in value for money. If you’re looking for a course that leans towards coding and core jobs, go for IIT Delhi; however, if you want a broader scope in engineering with better financial sense, IIT Kharagpur is the smarter choice.
