Before I start, I want to mention that I’m a student of Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi, so my perspective might be a bit biased.
First, when it comes to choosing between the two colleges, I would recommend IIT Delhi for Electrical Engineering over IIT Kharagpur. Here’s why:
IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering Power and Automation offers a dynamic blend of core and coding-focused opportunities, with impressive placements where the highest package can reach 3-4 crore and an average of 15 lakhs, plus generous internship prospects that can lead to pre-placement offers. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering boasts a solid placement record as well, with around 80% of students getting placed and an average package of 20-25 lakhs, but slightly lower highest packages. The campus life at both institutes is vibrant, yet IIT Delhi's frequent fests and events create a lively atmosphere that stands out. Personally, I'd lean towards IIT Delhi for its higher placement packages and diverse curriculum, but if you’re looking for a more balanced environment with a slightly more robust average package, IIT Kharagpur could be a great fit too.
From my research, IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering Power and Automation offers impressive placement statistics, with an average package around 15 lakhs and top packages hitting 3-4 crores, alongside lucrative internship opportunities that can lead to pre-placement offers. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering also has strong placements, averaging 20-25 lakhs and a high placement rate of around 80%, with about 900-1000 offers made. Both colleges have their strengths, but IIT Kharagpur edges ahead with a slightly better average package and placement rate. Ultimately, if you're leaning towards core engineering roles, IIT Delhi might be a better fit, while IIT Kharagpur could be ideal for those open to diverse career paths, including startups.
IIT Delhi for Electrical Engineering should definitely be your choice! IITD ranks among the top 3 engineering colleges in India!
Go for IIT Delhi!
IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering Power and Automation offers a slightly higher starting salary with an average package around 15 lakhs and the highest going up to 4 crores, making it attractive for students eyeing lucrative jobs. However, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering has an impressive average package of 20-25 lakhs and around 80% placement, which might be a better ROI considering its lower tuition fees of about 1 lakh compared to IIT Delhi's higher fees. Both colleges have solid internship opportunities, but IIT Kharagpur's extensive company visits (around 400) might give it an edge in job placements. If you're looking for value for money and a higher chance of getting placed, IIT Kharagpur seems to be the smarter financial choice, while IIT Delhi is ideal for those aiming for top-tier salaries despite the higher costs.
