Hi, Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi focuses more on communication engineering and electromagnetics, while Electrical (Power and Automation) emphasizes electric drives and power engineering. Aside from these four courses, all Electrical Engineering students share the same classes.

The main difference arises during placements, where companies may confuse Electrical with Electronics and Communication and Power and Automation with Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE). However, these two courses are quite similar overall. IIT Delhi's curriculum is designed to offer flexibility, allowing students to pursue a minor in their area of interest.

Good luck!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering Power and Automation offers a unique blend of core and coding roles, with impressive internship opportunities that can lead to packages of up to 25 lakhs. The placement stats are stellar, with the highest package reaching 3-4 crores and around 70% of students securing jobs. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur also has a strong placement record with an average package of 20-25 lakhs and around 80% placement rate, but the highest package is slightly lower at 2-3 crores. Both colleges have excellent internship programs, but IIT Delhi edges ahead in terms of extreme package potential and overall prestige. If you're aiming for the highest possible offers and a more diverse skill set, IIT Delhi would be the better choice, while IIT Kharagpur is great for those who want slightly better placement rates with solid packages.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Power and Automation) offers a unique blend of core engineering and coding, which could be a huge plus if you’re eyeing diverse job opportunities. The placement statistics are impressive, with top packages soaring up to 4 crore. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering also boasts solid placements with an average package of 20-25 lakhs and a wide range of internships available, but the highest package is slightly lower at around 3 crore. Both campuses have vibrant student life, but IIT Delhi stands out for its fests and overall culture.

Personally, I’d lean towards IIT Delhi if you want a dynamic mix of technical and coding skills, while IIT Kharagpur could be better if you prefer a robust core engineering focus with a slightly more relaxed atmosphere.

All three options are excellent, and honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them. However, your choice should depend on your specific goals.

IIT Delhi EE (Power and Automation)

  • 2nd best Entrepreneurship Culture in the country.
  • One of the tougher branches, with placement options that are as good as any.
  • Best non-core placement opportunities among the three options.

IIT Kharagpur EE

  • A well-established program with strong industry connections.
  • Offers solid core placement opportunities.
  • Known for a balanced approach to academics and extracurriculars.

IIT Guwahati DSAI

  • One of the hottest branches in the current tech industry.
  • Great scope for further studies abroad.
  • Best variable opportunities across domains in terms of research.

IIT Roorkee ECE

  • An established IIT with a well-respected branch.
  • Offers a conventional yet solid education.

Consider what aligns best with your career aspirations!

IIT Delhi was supported by MIT when it was established as an institute of national importance. Many best practices were adopted during that critical period.

This means that IIT Delhi offers a single branch of Electrical Engineering that covers diverse fields, including:

  • Communication Engineering (Communications Group, Electrical Engineering, IIT Delhi)
  • Control and Automation (Control & Automation)
  • Computer Technology (Computer Technology)
  • Integrated Electronics and Circuits (Integrated Electronics and Circuits)
  • Power Electronics, Electrical Machines, and Drives (Power Electronics, Electrical Machines and Drives)
  • Power Systems

This provides a specific advantage to students accepted into Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi. You have the freedom to choose from Computer Technology, Electronics, Communication, as well as traditional high-current fields like Control and Automation and Power Systems. To specifically meet industry requirements and foster academic and research talent, the faculty at IIT Delhi offers a distinct specialization in Electrical Engineering focusing on Power and Automation.
