You should focus on:

  • Whatever enhances your creativity the most.
  • Whatever helps you stand out among the crowd.
  • Whatever pushes you to work hard while also bringing you great joy.

From an academic standpoint, here are some rankings to consider. Only QS World rankings are mentioned, as other agencies tend to follow a similar pattern.

  • Overall Academics (All Art/Science/Engg/Medical Disciplines): IIT Delhi ranks at 179, following IISc Bangalore at 147. These two are the only Indian institutes that have maintained a rank below 200 in the last 4–5 years. Other institutes may follow, but they haven't made it to the top 200 yet. In terms of Engineering & Technology, IIT Delhi ranks at 47, making it the only Indian institute in the top 50.
  • QS World University Rankings® 2015/16
    • Electrical & Electronics: Only one Indian institute has consistently ranked among the world’s top 50 universities over the last 4–5 years, and that is IIT Delhi.
  • QS World University Rankings by Subject 2016 - Engineering - Electrical & Electronic
    • Computer Science: IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi perform better (both among the top 100, exact ranks not available). IIT Kharagpur follows with a rank among the top 150 (exact rank not available).
  • QS World University Rankings by Subject 2016 - Computer Science & IT

IIT Delhi for B.Tech in Electrical Engineering Power and Automation offers a unique blend of core engineering and coding, making it versatile for various job opportunities. Plus, their campus life is vibrant with fests like Rendezvous, and the placement stats are impressive with an average package of around 15 lakhs and high internship earnings. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering has a well-structured curriculum and an even better average package of 20-25 lakhs, along with a strong placement record. If you lean towards coding and tech, IIT Kharagpur might be the better choice, but if you're interested in a mix of electrical engineering with coding elements, IIT Delhi could be your pick. Personally, I'd go for IIT Kharagpur for the stronger placement prospects and the robust curriculum in computer science.

More than focusing on what’s better, consider what resonates with you! IITs have international accreditation.

  • B.Tech Electrical Engineering students can pursue M.Tech in Computer Science, whereas it’s not as common for the reverse.
  • All Non-Computer Engineering students study some level of computer concepts.
  • Strictly speaking, Electrical Engineering includes computer learning, but not the other way around.

Choose based on your future aspirations, if you have any. Good luck and cheers!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering Power and Automation offers a strong blend of core and coding opportunities, with impressive placement stats and a highest package reaching 3-4 crore, while their average is around 15 lakhs. However, the tuition fees are higher. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering boasts a better average package of 20-25 lakhs and has a lower tuition fee of about 1 lakh, making it a more financially savvy choice with approximately 80% placement. Both have solid scholarship options, but considering ROI and overall value, IIT Kharagpur seems like the smarter financial pick for those prioritizing cost-effectiveness and placement prospects. If you're into coding and tech, go for IIT Kharagpur; if you're more inclined towards electrical engineering with a twist, IIT Delhi is great, but be prepared to pay more.

Both options are great! The obsession with making the perfect choice is puzzling. There are students who choose Computer Science and struggle with basic concepts in C/C++ by the end of their second year. Comparing newer IITs to older ones is more relevant.

  • Choose Electrical Engineering if you're interested in topics like electricity, magnetism, semiconductors, electronics, transformers, and other electrical machines.
  • Opt for Computer Science if you have a grasp of programming and it excites you. Familiarity with flowcharts, BASIC, C++/Python/Java from school can help you decide. Strong mathematical and analytical skills will serve you well.

Ultimately, YOUR skills will be what counts. A prestigious college name might help you land interviews or get shortlisted, but from that point on, it’s all on YOU. Both IITs have excellent faculty, which is crucial among all factors.

Best of luck!
