Choose based on your interests, not what others say.

  • Do you enjoy Maths, Physics, and Chemistry? ? Go for Chemical Engineering!
  • Prefer only Maths and Physics? ? Opt for Electrical Engineering!
  • Want to work in communications later? ? EE is a good choice, as you can transition from EE to ECE.

Make your decision based on what excites you!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech + M.Tech in Chemical Engineering and IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering both offer solid career prospects, but the financial aspect leans more favorably towards IIT Kharagpur. The average package for Electrical Engineering students there is around 16 LPA, comparable to IIT Delhi, but with a more manageable course load and potential for diverse job opportunities. While IIT Delhi has a strong placement record, the high fees can be a burden, especially without a scholarship. If you want a better balance of workload and return on investment, IIT Kharagpur is the smarter choice; however, if you’re deeply interested in Chemical Engineering and willing to navigate the costs, IIT Delhi could still be worth it.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech + M.Tech in Chemical Engineering offers a strong placement scene with nearly 98-100% placement rates and top companies like Jane Street offering up to 4 CR packages, which is impressive. However, the curriculum is a bit rigid and the teaching methods are lacking. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering has a decent balance of workload with good internship opportunities and an average package of around 16 LPA, though it may not reach the heights of IIT Delhi's chemical program. If you’re focused on landing a high-paying job quickly, IIT Delhi is the better choice, but if you prefer a more balanced life with manageable coursework, IIT Kharagpur might suit you better.

The choice really hinges on your interests, location preferences, and future goals.

  • Placement-wise: IIT KGP's Electrical Engineering is a stronger option, no doubt. There are numerous core jobs and plenty of opportunities in CS, consulting, and finance. The growth potential is immense with this path.
  • Hard Work: Remember, there's no such thing as a free lunch. You need to put in the effort to seize these opportunities. If you're not ready to study hard after getting into IIT, those chances won’t mean much.
  • Passion for Chemical Engineering: If you have a genuine interest in chemical engineering, then IIT Delhi's B.Tech + M.Tech makes more sense. The placements are excellent for chemical students, but again, hard work is essential here too.
  • Future Plans: If you're considering entrepreneurship, UPSC CSE, CAT, etc., then IIT Delhi is the way to go.

Hope this helps! All the best :)
