Textile at IIT Delhi can potentially lead to jobs in IT and even MBA opportunities!
However, ECE is generally considered a stronger course. I don’t have much insight about IIT Dhanbad.
Here are some points to consider:
Students from IIT Delhi's Textile program have gone on to become leaders in the IT field and entrepreneurs running successful IT companies in India and abroad.
Neither of these options is great for IT. If you're aiming for an MBA, the IIT tag can be beneficial in the long run for securing a seat in ISB or the top 3 IIMs.
IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Textile Technology offers solid placement prospects, with over 90% of students getting placed and companies like Amazon and Google recruiting from the campus, often with highest packages reaching up to 2.5 crore. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering also boasts strong placements with a similar high placement rate, but the average packages tend to be lower. While both colleges have excellent faculty and facilities, IIT Delhi edges ahead due to its higher package potential and industry connections in tech. If you're leaning towards a tech-oriented career with top package prospects, IIT Delhi is the better choice; however, if you're interested in a broader electrical engineering focus, IIT Kharagpur still provides great opportunities.
Hey there! Congrats on getting into IIT!
It's definitely tempting to aim for the top 4 IITs rather than settling for a good discipline in a lower-ranked college. Getting into a premier institute has its perks:
If you choose a strong discipline (like C.S., as you mentioned) and put in serious effort during your time in college (just like you did for JEE), you can secure a good job. However, if you're considering Textile Technology at IIT Delhi, the chances of landing a good job (10 LPA+) are relatively low unless you excel in something extra (like a minor in CS).
Regarding the MBA path, you have at least 2 years to think it over. At this stage, it's hard to pinpoint your long-term career. Even if you have a direction, preparing for the MBA or CAT is all about your effort; it’s not dependent on the college you attend.
My personal advice: Go for C.S.
IIT Delhi’s B.Tech in Textile Technology offers a solid curriculum that is considered easier compared to more demanding programs, allowing students to engage in extracurriculars and startups, while boasting high placement rates with over 90% of students placed and average packages around 20 LPA. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering has a slightly more rigorous academic environment, with a faculty-student ratio of 15:1 and many professors holding PhDs from IITs, but it also enjoys a strong placement record with top companies visiting campus. Both colleges have vibrant campus life, but IIT Delhi's events like Rendezvous and Tryst give it a slight edge in terms of student engagement. Personally, I would lean towards IIT Delhi for its balance of a manageable curriculum and excellent placement opportunities, but if you prefer a more challenging academic environment, IIT Kharagpur could be your pick.
IIT Kharagpur, Kharagpur
