IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Textile Technology offers a solid foundation with a manageable curriculum, but when it comes to placements, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering clearly takes the lead. With over 90% placement rates and top packages reaching up to 2.5 crores, Kharagpur attracts major tech companies like Amazon and Google, while IIT Delhi's textile program, although decent, doesn't match that level of industry demand. If you're aiming for a high-paying tech career, IIT Kharagpur is the smarter choice; however, if you’re more inclined towards a niche field and entrepreneurship, IIT Delhi could still be a good fit.

Choosing between B.Tech in Textile Technology at IIT Delhi and B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering at IIT Kharagpur is a big decision! Here are some points to consider:

  • Job Opportunities: Textile at IIT Delhi can lead to jobs in IT and even MBA opportunities.
  • Course Reputation: ECE is generally regarded as a stronger course overall.
  • Experience and Activities: IIT Delhi offers a richer experience with more extracurricular activities.
  • Location Advantage: Delhi is a better city for networking and socializing. If you’re friendly, you’ll find it easier to connect with others.
  • Alumni Success: Many students from IIT Delhi's Textile program have become leaders in the IT field and entrepreneurs running successful companies in India and abroad.

In summary, both options have their merits, but consider your interests and career goals when making your choice!

Hey there! Congrats on getting into IIT!

It's definitely tempting to join one of the top 4 IITs rather than opting for a good discipline at a lower-ranked college. Getting into a premier institute comes with its perks:

  • Good exposure
  • Meeting super-ambitious people
  • Delhi-specific advantages: excellent coaching facilities for IAS, IES, and of course, a vibrant city life

If you choose a strong discipline (like C.S., as you mentioned) and put in serious effort in college (just like you did for JEE), you can secure a great job. However, if you end up in Textile Technology at IIT Delhi, the chances of landing a good job (10 LPA+) are significantly lower unless you excel in something extra (like a minor in CS).

Regarding an MBA, you have at least 2 years to think about it. At this stage, it's tough to pinpoint your long-term career path. Even if you have an idea, preparing for the MBA or CAT requires your effort alone; it’s not necessarily tied to the college you attend.

My personal advice: Go for C.S.

IIT Delhi seems to have a more relaxed curriculum with its B.Tech in Textile Technology, allowing students to manage other interests while still providing solid real-world applications. The faculty-student ratio is impressive, and the opportunities for internships with top companies like Amazon and Google are promising. However, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering offers a more rigorous academic environment and exceptional placement statistics, with high packages and a strong track record of over 90% placement. Campus life appears vibrant in both, but Kharagpur's engineering vibe might appeal more if you’re leaning towards a competitive atmosphere. Personally, I’d recommend IIT Kharagpur for those wanting a robust engineering challenge and career prospects, while IIT Delhi could be a great pick for those interested in a balanced approach with a focus on textile technology.

Neither option is great for IT. If your goal is an MBA, then having the IIT tag can be beneficial in the long run for securing a seat in ISB or the top 3 IIMs.
