IIT KGP's Instrumentation Engineering is a circuit branch, and you'll find plenty of opportunities there.

Here’s a quick ranking:

  • 1. IIT Delhi EP
  • 2. IIT Delhi Chemical Engineering

Also, IIT Mandi CSE is a solid choice, but I recommend sticking with the options above!

IIT Delhi’s B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering offers a fantastic ROI due to its comprehensive curriculum and outstanding placement records, with companies like Google and Microsoft actively recruiting, leading to high-paying internships and job offers. While IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering is also reputable, it lacks the same level of industry engagement and internship opportunities as IIT Delhi. The fees at both institutions are similar, but the potential earnings and career prospects for IIT Delhi graduates significantly outweigh the costs, making it a smarter financial choice. If you're aiming for a top-tier placement and a vibrant campus life, IIT Delhi is the way to go; however, if you have a specific interest in instrumentation and prefer a slightly different academic focus, IIT Kharagpur could still be a good fit.

Instrumentation Engineering is considered a solid branch, and the curriculum is quite engaging. Many students find it more aligned with their needs than even Electrical Engineering.

There is a slight disadvantage in non-core placements compared to IIT Delhi. For instance, Bain and AT Kearney don’t recruit from IIT Kharagpur, but there are still plenty of opportunities in consulting and other non-core areas. Last year, Deutsche Bank didn’t have any interns from IIT Delhi, while it had five from IIT KGP. Statistics and figures do fluctuate, though.

Consulting firms typically don’t hire during the placement season at IIT Kharagpur and are not restricted by the institute's administrative processes. They usually recruit around August and September, and their hiring processes resemble those of other institutes. They even allow students who have secured a PPO from their internships to participate in their selection process, which isn't common elsewhere. It’s a slight advantage, but definitely a pro!

Ultimately, the decision is yours to make. Only you know what fits your aspirations best. If you're open to suggestions, here's my take:

  • IIT KGP Instrumentation Engineering >
  • IIT D Engineering Physics >
  • IIT D Chemical Engineering.

Instrumentation is an excellent branch, but it really depends on your interests and career goals!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering clearly stands out when it comes to placements and internships compared to IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering. The internship opportunities at IIT Delhi are vast, with big names like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon regularly recruiting, often offering lucrative stipends, whereas IIT Kharagpur may not match this level of diversity and financial benefit. In terms of placement percentages, IIT Delhi boasts an impressive record, frequently achieving above 85%, while Kharagpur's exact figures are less clear but likely don’t approach this high. If you’re looking for top-tier job prospects and industry connections, IIT Delhi is likely the better choice for you. However, if you have a strong interest in instrumentation and its specific applications, IIT Kharagpur might still be worth considering for its specialized focus.
