IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers a strong edge in placements and internships, especially in tech and finance, with top firms like Jane Street offering staggering packages that can reach up to 4 crores. The curriculum is rigorous, which prepares you well for the high-paying quant and tech roles. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering also has good placement records but leans more towards electronics with slightly less emphasis on financial roles. If you're passionate about mathematics and want to dive into high-stakes finance or tech, IIT Delhi is the better choice. However, if you're more inclined towards electronics and communication, IIT Kharagpur is still a solid option but may not match the financial prospects of IIT Delhi.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers a rigorous curriculum that combines advanced mathematics with computer science, appealing to those who love both fields. The internship opportunities are phenomenal, especially in quant firms with high stipends, and placements are top-notch with major tech companies and quant traders. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering likely has a good mix of theory and practical applications, but it seems less specialized compared to IIT Delhi's offerings in terms of high-paying internships in quant finance.

The campus life at both schools is vibrant, but IIT Delhi's extensive clubs and societies, along with its strong faculty base with research credentials, give it an edge. Personally, I would pick IIT Delhi for its excellent placements, diverse opportunities, and strong emphasis on mathematics. If you are passionate about mathematics and looking for a career in tech or finance, IIT Delhi is the better choice. However, if you prefer a broader engineering discipline with a focus on electronics, then IIT Kharagpur could be a solid fit.

Firstly, let me be clear: IIT DELHI IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN IIT KGP. Now, let's analyze:

1. PERCEPTION OF PEOPLE:

  • IITD >> IIT KGP
  • MATH & COMPUTING ~ EE (approximately equal, but MNC is better than EE due to its proximity to CS)

2. JOB OPPORTUNITIES:

  • EE covers a wider field, both in software and hardware. MNC is more focused on software computing.
  • So, EE ~ MNC (but MNC is still better than EE, again because of CS proximity to MNC)

3. ACCEPTABILITY IN OTHER FIELDS:

  • EE graduates can easily shift to related fields since electrical courses are taken by many students from other branches. MNC is limited mostly to maths and IT.
  • Therefore, EE > MNC

4. IN OTHER COLLEGES:

  • EE is an evergreen branch present in most engineering colleges. MNC is a “hybrid” branch introduced to meet the growing demand for CS, so it’s not available in many colleges, limiting its acceptability.
  • Thus, EE > MNC

5. RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES:

  • EE > MNC

6. ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT:

  • IITD >> IIT KGP

So, the final decision is yours. Your own interests and priorities will also play a significant role in your choice. Cheers!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers a rigorous curriculum with excellent ROI, especially for those interested in tech and finance, given the high stipends from quant firms and a strong placement record with top companies like Google and Jane Street. The tuition fees are around Rs.1,00,000 per semester, but numerous scholarships can help ease the financial burden.

In comparison, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering likely has a solid placement record as well, but the financial returns might not be as sky-high as those seen in the Mathematics and Computing program at IIT Delhi. If you love mathematics and are eyeing lucrative roles in quant or tech, IIT Delhi is the smarter financial choice; however, if you prefer a broader engineering approach, IIT Kharagpur could still be a good option.
