To compare the two situations, let's look at the facts:
IIT Kharagpur
IIT BHU
IIT Delhi’s B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers a rigorous curriculum that prepares you for high-paying roles in tech and finance, with impressive placements like Jane Street’s 4 crore package and a staggering 93% placement rate. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech in Agricultural and Food Engineering, while also reputable, may not attract the same level of high-paying tech firms, though it has its strengths in specialized sectors. The campus life at both institutes is vibrant, but IIT Delhi shines with its numerous clubs and excellent sports facilities. Personally, I'd pick IIT Delhi for its stronger industry connections and higher placement potential, especially for those inclined towards mathematics and tech. If you love mathematics and are aiming for a tech-heavy career, go for IIT Delhi; for those more interested in agricultural applications, IIT Kharagpur could be a good fit.
You can easily land non-core jobs here! Many companies are visiting the campus. However, I don’t have much insight into Agricultural and Food Engineering.
I would advise against choosing IIT Kharagpur's Agricultural and Food Engineering program. The placement statistics for KGP are not great, and there are a lot of students, which means intense competition for jobs. Many students in this department end up regretting their decision, as switching branches is often not an option.
Additionally, KGP is located in a relatively isolated area, which can limit opportunities. I recommend considering other IITs or opting for Computer Science at an NIT instead.
Also, be cautious about advice from teachers; they may be out of touch with current industry requirements.
IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers outstanding placement opportunities, especially in tech and finance, with companies like Google and Jane Street recruiting students at high packages, including a last year's highest of 4 crores. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Agricultural and Food Engineering, while solid, doesn't match the same level of company diversity or salary potential, focusing more on agricultural sectors.
Internships at IIT Delhi attract major quant firms and tech giants, providing substantial stipends, whereas Kharagpur's placement scene is less lucrative. If you enjoy mathematics and aim for high-paying roles in tech or finance, IIT Delhi is your best bet; however, if you're passionate about sustainable food systems and agriculture, IIT Kharagpur could be fulfilling.
