IIT Delhi.

Reasons include better professors, the caliber of your future classmates, and placement opportunities (trust me, many multinational corporations like Samsung Korea and Rubrik U.S. don’t visit IIT Kharagpur, but they regularly come to IIT Delhi for internships and placements). There are also great opportunities for pursuing further studies at top-tier international universities.

Additionally, IIT Delhi is located in the heart of Delhi (specifically South Delhi) and is not far from the Delhi airport. There are plenty of restaurants, malls, theaters, and bars to enjoy on weekends.

In contrast, the nearest city to IIT Kharagpur is Kolkata, which is about 140 km away. The closest decent restaurant to IIT Kharagpur is a Domino’s outlet, and it doesn’t even deliver pizzas inside the campus.

I usually don’t put much stock in QS Rankings, but you can rely on them when they rank IIT Delhi higher than IIT Kharagpur.

Cheers!

If you're looking for better education and future opportunities, go for IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing. Choose IIT Kharagpur if you prefer a more vibrant social life.

  • The Mathematics and Computing course at IIT KGP won't provide a solid foundation in either subject.
  • What it can offer is high-paying placement opportunities after 5 years.
  • If you're truly committed, you could opt for KGP and aim for a branch change into a more legitimate course.

On a related note, consider this: Would you rather choose a college with strong academics or one with a lot of activities, if you had to pick just one?

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers a high ROI with impressive placements, especially in tech and quant firms, where stipends can reach up to 20 lakhs for international roles. The tuition fee of 1,00,000 per semester is manageable, and various scholarships are available, ensuring financial support for deserving students. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech + M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering might provide a broader educational experience, but its placement statistics aren't as strong in tech-focused roles. For those who love mathematics and want a career in high-paying sectors, IIT Delhi is the smarter financial choice, while IIT Kharagpur may suit students looking for a traditional engineering path.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing is a fantastic choice if you're passionate about both math and tech, offering rigorous courses and excellent placement opportunities, especially in quant firms where salaries can skyrocket. The campus life is vibrant with numerous clubs and high-quality sports facilities, plus faculty members are highly qualified.

On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech + M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering provides a more traditional engineering path with the benefit of an integrated master's degree, which can be great for those looking to dive deeper into engineering specialization. While both colleges have strong placements, IIT Delhi seems to have an edge in terms of tech-centric opportunities and overall student experience.

Personally, I'd pick IIT Delhi for its unique blend of math, computing, and a dynamic campus life, especially if you have a strong affinity for mathematics.

Firstly, let me be clear: IIT DELHI IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN IIT KGP. Now, let's break it down:

1. PERCEPTION OF PEOPLE:

  • IITD > IIT KGP
  • MATH & COMPUTING ~ EE (approximately equal, but MNC has an edge over EE due to its proximity to CS)

2. JOB OPPORTUNITIES:

  • EE covers a broader field, encompassing both software and hardware. MNC, on the other hand, leans more towards software computing.
  • So, EE ~ MNC (but MNC has the upper hand again because of its connection to CS)

3. ACCEPTABILITY IN OTHER FIELDS:

  • EE graduates can easily transition to various related fields since electrical courses are taken by many students from other branches. MNC graduates are generally limited to math and IT roles.
  • Thus, EE > MNC

4. IN OTHER COLLEGES:

  • EE is a timeless branch available in most engineering colleges. MNC is a relatively new “hybrid” branch created to meet the rising demand for CS, so it’s not widely offered, limiting its acceptability.
  • Therefore, EE > MNC

5. RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES:

  • EE > MNC

6. ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT:

  • IITD > IIT KGP

So, the final decision is yours. Remember, your own interests and priorities will also play a significant role in your choice. Cheers!
