CSE at IIT Kharagpur is definitely a better choice!

It not only offers a tech degree but also provides ample opportunities and exposure in various fields, including:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Software Design
  • Machine Learning
  • Soft Computing
  • Data Science

Placements are on par with other IITs, with average salaries exceeding 30 LPA. Many students secure internships in sectors like finance, industry, marketing, consultancy, and soft computing.

The faculty is exceptional, bringing diverse experience from different fields. This allows students to work on numerous national-level projects, such as the NDLI project, under their guidance.

KGP also boasts a robust coding culture, organizing events like:

  • Winter of Code
  • Hackathons
  • Blockchain Competitions

And many more!

If you want better education and future opportunities, go for IIT Delhi B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing. If you prefer a more vibrant social life, choose IIT Kharagpur B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering.

The Mathematics and Computing course at IIT Kharagpur won’t really teach you much in terms of actual mathematics or computing skills. What it can guarantee is high-paying placement opportunities after five years.

If you’re truly determined, you could opt for KGP and aim for a branch change into a more legitimate course.

On a related note, consider this: Would you choose a college with strong academics or one with a lot of activities if you had to pick just one?

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing stands out with its rigorous curriculum that blends advanced mathematics with computer science, perfect for those who love both fields. The internship opportunities are phenomenal, especially in quant firms, and the placement stats are hard to beat, with top companies offering impressive packages. On the flip side, IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering also has a solid reputation, though the specific details on placements and internships are less compelling.

The campus life at both institutions is vibrant, but IIT Delhi seems to have a slight edge in terms of student engagement and facilities. Personally, I would choose IIT Delhi for its stronger focus on tech and quant roles, but if you prefer a more traditional engineering path, IIT Kharagpur is still a great option.

All three options are quite comparable, so it ultimately comes down to your interests.

1. If you’re leaning towards Computer Science but didn’t quite make the cut, and if you can handle math (better yet, if you love it), then definitely consider Mathematics and Computing. It’s the closest alternative to CS. Just remember, it involves a lot of math. Higher mathematics is significantly different from what you encounter in senior school, so don’t get swept away. Do your research thoroughly!

2. If you have a passion for Maths, Chemistry, Physics, and Mechanics (which is part of Physics in senior school), then Chemical Engineering might be your path. You need to genuinely enjoy these subjects. In this field, you’ll be monitoring and enhancing various industrial processes, typically chemical-based. If that excites you, go for it. Again, research is key!

3. For Instrumentation Engineering, your focus will be on improving reliability, efficiency, safety, and more in various systems.

Choose wisely based on what truly interests you!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers excellent placements, especially in tech and quant firms, with top companies like Google and Jane Street recruiting heavily. The internship stipends can go as high as 20 lakhs for international offers, which is a huge draw if you're keen on high-paying roles. In contrast, while IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering provides solid opportunities, it doesn't quite match the sheer number of top-tier tech placements that IIT Delhi boasts. If you love mathematics and have an interest in pursuing a career in quant or software, IIT Delhi is the way to go, but if you're more inclined towards instrumentation and its applications, then IIT Kharagpur could be a good fit. Ultimately, your choice should align with your passion and career aspirations.
