IIT Delhi.

Reasons include better professors, the calibre of your future batchmates, and placement opportunities. Trust me, many multinational corporations like Samsung Korea and Rubrik U.S. don’t visit IIT Kharagpur, but they regularly come to IIT Delhi to hire students for internships and placements. There are also more opportunities for pursuing further studies at top-tier international universities.

Additionally, IIT Delhi is located in the heart of Delhi (South Delhi, to be precise) and is not far from the Delhi airport. There are plenty of restaurants, malls, theatres, and bars to enjoy on weekends.

On the flip side, the nearest city to IIT Kharagpur is Kolkata, which is about 140 km away. The closest decent restaurant to IIT Kharagpur is a Domino’s outlet, and it doesn’t even deliver pizzas inside the campus.

I usually don’t put much stock in QS Rankings, but you can rely on them when they rank IIT Delhi higher than IIT Kharagpur.

Cheers!

IIT Delhi B.Tech Mathematics and Computing offers a rigorous curriculum that combines advanced mathematics with computing, making it a great choice for those interested in tech and finance. The placement stats are impressive, with 93% of students placed and top companies like Jane Street offering packages up to 4 crores. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech Computer Science Engineering also has a solid reputation and good placements, but the specific figures and high-end packages aren't as pronounced. The tuition fee at IIT Delhi is around 1,00,000 per semester, which is manageable given the scholarships available, making it a smart financial choice. Overall, if you're passionate about mathematics and aiming for high-stakes roles in quant or tech, IIT Delhi is the way to go, while IIT Kharagpur is also a strong option if you prefer a more traditional computer science focus.

IIT Delhi B.Tech Mathematics and Computing offers a rigorous curriculum that blends advanced math and computer science, making it ideal for those interested in tech and quant roles, with impressive placement stats, including a highest package of 4 crore from Jane Street. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's Computer Science Engineering program, while also strong, might not match the specialized quant-focused opportunities available at IIT Delhi, especially given the higher stipends from quant firms. Both campuses have excellent faculty and vibrant campus life, but if you love mathematics and want to dive deep into both math and computing, I'd personally pick IIT Delhi for its unique offerings and stellar placements. If you're more inclined towards a broader CS curriculum without the heavy math focus, IIT Kharagpur could be the way to go.

CSE at IIT Kharagpur is definitely a better choice.

  • It offers a solid Tech degree with plenty of opportunities and exposure across various fields like artificial intelligence, software design, machine learning, soft computing, data science, and more.
  • Placements are on par with other IITs, with an average salary exceeding 30 LPA.
  • Many students secure internships in finance, industry, marketing, consultancy, soft computing, and other sectors.
  • The faculty is outstanding, bringing diverse experience from different fields, allowing students to work on national-level projects (like the NDLI project) under their guidance.
  • KGP boasts a strong coding culture, organizing events like Winter of Code, hackathons, blockchain competitions, and more.

Firstly, let me be clear: IIT DELHI IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN IIT KGP. Now, let's break it down:

1. PERCEPTION OF PEOPLE:

  • IITD >> IIT KGP
  • MATH & COMPUTING ~ EE (approximately equal, but MNC is better than EE due to its proximity to CS)

2. JOB OPPORTUNITIES:

  • EE covers a broader field, both in software and hardware. MNC, on the other hand, is more focused on software computing.
  • So, EE ~ MNC (but MNC is still better than EE, again because of CS's proximity to MNC)

3. ACCEPTABILITY IN OTHER FIELDS:

  • EE graduates can easily shift to various related fields since electrical courses are taken by many other branches. MNC graduates are mostly limited to math and IT.
  • Therefore, EE > MNC

4. IN OTHER COLLEGES:

  • EE is an evergreen branch found in most engineering colleges. MNC is a “hybrid” branch created to meet the growing demand for CS! It's not available in many colleges, which limits its acceptability elsewhere.
  • So, EE > MNC

5. RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES:

  • EE > MNC

6. ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT:

  • IITD >> IIT KGP

So the final decision is yours. Your own interests and priorities will also play a significant role in your choice. Cheers!
