IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers a rigorous curriculum that appeals to those who love math and want to excel in tech or finance, with impressive placements in quant firms and high stipends, like the highest package of 4 crores from Jane Street in 2025. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Civil Engineering is likely to have a broader appeal for students interested in construction and infrastructure, but its placement statistics aren't as stellar as those from IIT Delhi.
The campus life at both colleges is vibrant, with extensive clubs and activities, and faculty at both institutes are highly qualified. Personally, I'd choose IIT Delhi for its cutting-edge curriculum and placement opportunities, especially if you’re targeting tech or finance. If you’re more inclined toward civil engineering and infrastructure, IIT Kharagpur would be a solid choice.
IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers outstanding placement opportunities, especially in tech and quant firms, with students landing packages as high as 4 crores from top companies like Jane Street and Microsoft, and a placement rate of about 93%. In contrast, while IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Civil Engineering has a solid reputation, the placement packages tend to be lower and more varied, focusing primarily on traditional civil sectors.
If you're inclined towards a tech or finance career, IIT Delhi is clearly the better option due to its robust internship opportunities and higher salary prospects. However, if you have a passion for civil engineering and prefer a more stable career path, IIT Kharagpur could still be a good fit.
Firstly, let me be clear: IIT DELHI IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN IIT KGP. Now, let's break it down:
So, the final decision is yours. Your own interests and priorities will also play a significant role in your choice. Cheers!
IIT Delhi.
Reasons include better professors, the caliber of your future batchmates, and placement opportunities. Trust me, many multinational corporations like Samsung Korea and Rubrik U.S. don’t visit IIT Kharagpur, but they regularly come to IIT Delhi to hire students for internships and placements. There are also great opportunities for pursuing further studies at top-tier international universities.
Additionally, IIT Delhi is located in the heart of Delhi (South Delhi, to be exact) and is quite close to the Delhi airport. There are plenty of restaurants, malls, theaters, and bars to enjoy on weekends.
On the flip side, the nearest city to IIT Kharagpur is Kolkata, which is around 140 km away. The closest decent restaurant to IIT Kharagpur is a Domino’s outlet, and it doesn’t even deliver pizzas inside the campus.
I usually don’t put much stock in QS Rankings, but you can believe them when they rank IIT Delhi higher than IIT Kharagpur.
Cheers!
CSE at IIT Kharagpur is definitely a better option.
It not only offers a tech degree but also provides ample opportunities and exposure in various fields such as:
Placements are on par with other IITs, with average salaries exceeding 30 LPA. Many students secure internships in sectors like finance, industry, marketing, consultancy, and soft computing.
The faculty is excellent, bringing a wealth of experience from diverse fields. This allows students to work on numerous national-level projects, including the NDLI project, under their guidance.
KGP also boasts a strong coding culture. It organizes events like:
