IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering offers a vibrant campus life with numerous fests and a supportive faculty-student ratio, making it a great place for holistic development. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering also boasts a strong curriculum with timely assessments, but it seems to emphasize a slightly more competitive environment. Both colleges have impressive placement records, but IIT Delhi appears to attract more high-profile companies like Google and Microsoft, which could lead to higher packages. Personally, I would lean towards IIT Delhi for its overall student experience and opportunities, especially if you're keen on a well-rounded education and networking. If you're more inclined towards a rigorous technical environment, IIT Kharagpur might be a better fit.

Instrumentation Engineering is regarded as a solid branch, and the curriculum is quite engaging. Many students find it more aligned with their needs than even Electrical Engineering.

  • There’s a slight disadvantage in non-core placements compared to IIT Delhi. Bain and AT Kearney do not recruit from IIT Kharagpur, but other opportunities in consulting and non-core sectors are quite promising.
  • Last year, Deutsche Bank didn’t have any interns from IIT Delhi, while it had five from IIT KGP. Statistics and figures can vary significantly.
  • Consulting companies typically don’t recruit during the placement season at IIT Kharagpur and are not bound by the institute's administrative processes. They usually hire in August and September, and their selection processes resemble those at other institutes. They even allow candidates with PPOs from their internships to participate in their selection, which is not common elsewhere.

Overall, it’s a slight advantage, but still a positive aspect!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering offers a solid placement track record with an average package of around 18 lakhs and over 90% placement rate, making it a great option for students looking for high ROI. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering also has strong placement opportunities, especially in tech giants like Google and Microsoft. However, the details on average packages and placement rates aren't as robust as those for IIT Delhi. Considering the better placement statistics and the reputation of IIT Delhi, I would recommend it for those who prioritize financial returns. On the other hand, if you're passionate about electronics and communication, IIT Kharagpur could still be a viable choice for you, especially if you can leverage its diverse opportunities.
