Ultimately, the decision is yours. Only you can determine what fits your goals and interests. If you're open to suggestions, here's my take:

  • IIT KGP Instrumentation Engineering >
  • IIT D-Engineering Physics >
  • IIT D Chemical Engineering.

Instrumentation is an excellent branch, but it really depends on what you want to pursue!

Instrumentation Engineering is considered a solid branch, and the curriculum is quite engaging. Many students find it more aligned with their needs than even Electrical Engineering.

Here are some points to consider:

  • There’s a slight disadvantage in non-core placements compared to IIT Delhi. Companies like Bain and AT Kearney don’t hire from IIT Kharagpur, but there are still plenty of opportunities in consulting and other non-core areas.
  • Last year, Deutsche Bank didn’t have any interns from IIT Delhi, while it had five from IIT KGP. Statistics and figures can vary quite a bit.
  • Consulting firms typically don’t hire during the placement season at IIT Kharagpur. They usually recruit in August and September. Their processes resemble those at other institutes, but they allow students with PPOs from internships to participate in their selection processes, which is not common elsewhere.

It’s a slight advantage, but worth noting!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering stands out for its rigorous curriculum and strong faculty support, with a student-to-faculty ratio of around 1:50 and excellent placement opportunities starting from the 6th semester. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering also has a solid faculty and offers timely term exams, but the overall campus experience seems less vibrant compared to IIT Delhi, which boasts a more active student life with frequent fests and a better range of extracurricular activities. While both colleges provide good prospects, I would personally lean towards IIT Delhi for its superior exposure, placement packages, and dynamic campus life, making it a more enriching choice for students looking to maximize their college experience.

IIT KGP's Instrumentation Engineering is a circuit branch, and you'll find plenty of opportunities there. Here’s a ranking to consider:

  • 1. IIT KGP Instrumentation
  • 2. IIT Delhi Industrial & Production
  • 3. IIT Delhi Chemical

IIT Mandi CSE is also a solid choice, but stick with the options above if you can!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering offers a robust curriculum with strong placement opportunities, featuring companies like Microsoft and Google, and an impressive average package of 18 lakhs. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering also has good faculty and placements, but lacks detailed information on packages and scholarships. While both colleges require a high fee structure, IIT Delhi provides scholarships, making it a better financial choice for economically weaker students. If you're looking for high ROI and better placement prospects, I would recommend IIT Delhi over IIT Kharagpur.
