Going solely by core jobs, Mech + M.Tech at IIT Kharagpur will be better. However, if you want to land IT jobs while dabbling in coding, then opt for the 4-year course at IIT Delhi. It offers better facilities!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering offers an impressive average package of 18 lakhs with over 90% placement rates, which makes it a strong contender for return on investment (ROI). Although IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering has a solid reputation and attracts major companies like Google and Microsoft, the exact figures for average packages weren't mentioned, suggesting a potential gap in financial returns. Both colleges have their strengths, but IIT Delhi seems to provide better value for money due to its higher placement statistics and supportive scholarship options for economically weaker sections.

If you prioritize immediate financial returns and a vibrant campus life, IIT Delhi would be the smarter choice. However, if you're more interested in a broader engineering experience and can handle the uncertainty in placement statistics, IIT Kharagpur could still be a great fit.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering offers impressive placement opportunities, with over 90% of students getting placed and an average package of 18 lakhs. Companies like Microsoft and Google actively recruit there, starting from the 6th semester. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering also has a robust placement record but might have a slight edge in terms of higher initial packages and a more established alumni network in core engineering sectors. While both colleges provide good internship opportunities, IIT Delhi's exposure to top tech firms can be a game-changer for those interested in cutting-edge fields. If you're looking for a tech-heavy career path, IIT Delhi might be the better choice, but if you’re inclined towards a more traditional engineering route, IIT Kharagpur is also a strong contender.

Instrumentation Engineering is regarded as a solid branch, and the curriculum is quite engaging. Many students find it more aligned with their needs than even Electrical Engineering.

  • There’s a slight disadvantage in non-core placements compared to IIT Delhi. Bain and AT Kearney don’t recruit from IIT Kharagpur, but other opportunities in consulting and non-core sectors are quite promising.
  • Last year, Deutsche Bank had no interns from IIT Delhi, while it had five from IIT KGP. Statistics and figures do fluctuate.
  • Consulting firms typically don’t hire during the placement season at IIT Kharagpur. They operate outside the institute's administrative process. Their hiring usually occurs in August and September, resembling processes at other institutes. They even allow students with PPOs from internships to participate in their selection, which isn't common elsewhere.

It’s a minor advantage, but still a positive aspect!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering offers a vibrant campus life with frequent fests and strong faculty support, making it a great choice for those seeking a collaborative environment. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering has a robust curriculum and access to top companies like Google and Microsoft for placements, which might appeal more to those focused on technical careers. While both colleges boast impressive placement rates, IIT Delhi's emphasis on a supportive community and hands-on projects might suit students who value a balanced experience, whereas IIT Kharagpur's technical reputation could draw those with a clear focus on engineering.

Personally, I would pick IIT Delhi for its overall student experience and growth opportunities, but if you're all about hardcore engineering and placements, IIT Kharagpur could be your best bet.
