IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering offers a strong placement scene with an average package of 18 lakhs and over 90% placement rates, but it lacks scholarship options which could be a drawback for financially weaker students. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering has access to top companies like Google and Microsoft from the 3rd year, and it provides scholarships for deserving students, making it more financially viable in the long run.

While both colleges have excellent faculty and campus life, IIT Kharagpur seems to offer a better return on investment and aid for students in need, making it the smarter choice for those who value monetary support alongside placement opportunities. If you can handle the higher fees of IIT Delhi, it might be worth it for the placements, but for a balanced financial approach, IIT Kharagpur wins out.

Instrumentation Engineering is regarded as a solid branch, and the curriculum is indeed very engaging. Many students find it aligns better with their needs than even Electrical Engineering.

There’s a slight disadvantage in non-core placements compared to IIT Delhi. Bain and AT Kearney do not recruit from IIT Kharagpur, but the remaining opportunities in consulting and other non-core areas are quite promising. For example, last year, Deutsche Bank didn’t have any interns from IIT Delhi, while it had five from IIT KGP. Statistics and figures can vary quite a bit.

Consulting firms typically don’t hire during the placement season at IIT Kharagpur. They aren’t bound by the institute's administrative processes. Instead, they usually recruit in August and September. Their hiring processes resemble those at other institutes, but they do allow students with PPOs from their internships to participate in their selections, which is not common elsewhere. It’s a slight advantage, but still a pro!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering offers a vibrant campus life with regular fests and a supportive faculty, while IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering boasts a strong curriculum with high internship stipends and excellent placement prospects. Both colleges have a good student-to-faculty ratio, but IIT Delhi tends to have a more rigorous academic environment with higher average packages around 18 lakhs, and a more competitive placement scene. Personally, I would lean towards IIT Kharagpur for its focus on cutting-edge technology and the immense opportunities in computer science, especially if you're aiming for top tech companies. However, if you're passionate about industrial engineering and prefer a lively campus culture, IIT Delhi would be a great fit.

IIT Delhi’s B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering and IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering both have strong placement records, but the tech-focused curriculum at IIT Kharagpur gives it an edge, especially with companies like Google and Microsoft actively recruiting. IIT Kharagpur reports that students can start placements from their third year, and the average package is likely higher than IIT Delhi's 18 lakhs due to the demand for computer science graduates. Internships at IIT Kharagpur also seem to be more lucrative, with many tech companies offering high stipends, which is crucial for building a solid resume. If you're inclined towards tech and want better job prospects, IIT Kharagpur is a better choice. However, if you’re interested in production and operations management, IIT Delhi remains a great option but may not match the tech placement intensity of Kharagpur.
