IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Energy Engineering comes with a lower tuition fee of around 1 lakh per semester compared to IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering, which has a higher fee structure. However, IIT Kharagpur's placements are more lucrative, with highest packages reaching up to 4 crore for international roles, making it seem like a better ROI for CSE aspirants. While IIT Delhi offers solid placement opportunities, the average package is significantly lower, and many students plan to pursue further studies instead. If you’re looking for immediate high-paying job opportunities, IIT Kharagpur is the smarter financial choice, while IIT Delhi is a great option if you're passionate about energy and willing to invest in your future in a niche field.

As a student involved in the Training and Placement cell of IIT Delhi, I'm unable to share specific placement statistics here. However, I can discuss some qualitative aspects.

  • If you have an electrical engineering background, your chances of placement are good, provided you have a strong grasp of electrical engineering concepts, maintain a decent GPA (preferably above 8), and possess good communication skills.
  • For those from a mechanical engineering background, it can be a bit tougher. You’ll need to put in extra effort. Learning software like Python can help you target IT companies and boost your chances of getting placed.
  • Now, here's a crucial point: placements are largely driven by students. Having a friend in the placement cell can be beneficial, as they can help invite the companies you want to campus.

This means that if students are focused solely on preparing for entrance exams and not engaging with the placement cell, it could negatively impact placement opportunities for everyone in the class.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Energy Engineering offers a vibrant campus life with top-notch facilities, but the placement opportunities seem a bit uncertain compared to IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering, where companies like Ola and Bajaj actively recruit. While both institutes have excellent faculty and an extensive curriculum, IIT Kharagpur edges out with its consistent high placement rates and impressive salary packages. If you're leaning towards tech roles and want a more solid placement guarantee, IIT Kharagpur would be the better choice, but if you're passionate about energy and technology integration, IIT Delhi could still be a great fit for you. Personally, I'd pick IIT Kharagpur for the stronger placement assurance and industry connections.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Energy Engineering and IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering offer distinct placement prospects. IIT Delhi has a solid reputation with companies like Ola and Bajaj frequently recruiting, resulting in impressive packages, with the highest reaching 4 Crore last year. In contrast, while IIT Kharagpur also boasts strong placement opportunities, especially in tech and non-tech sectors, the specifics on internship opportunities and packages aren't as clear.

Given the higher demand for computer science graduates and the better-known companies targeting IIT Kharagpur, I'd recommend IIT Kharagpur for those keen on tech careers. However, if you're passionate about energy and its technological applications, IIT Delhi can still provide a strong foundation and opportunities, albeit with a slightly different career trajectory.

As an alumnus of the same department, I can share insights based on my experience.

In the last two years, students have been placed in companies like GE Power, Sterling Power, John Deere, ABB India, Deloitte India, Applied Materials, and Renault-Nissan. (These are my batchmates or juniors, so you can trust this information.)

In recent batches, almost everyone who wanted a placement secured one (except one individual). Even those who didn’t put in much effort managed to get placed (but don’t follow this example).

Yes, students drive placements. However, you may not have control over what others choose to pursue. You’ll notice many of your fellow batchmates expressing a desire to leave the M.Tech program early (don’t be surprised; I know how it goes). It’s crucial to stay focused. The situation has improved significantly, and credit goes to some dedicated individuals in the batch (ask anyone currently in the M.Tech program, and they will agree).

If you want to achieve anything at IIT, be prepared to work hard. There are no shortcuts!
