I don't have much knowledge about Biotech Engineering, but as someone familiar with Agricultural Engineering, I believe this branch has limited applications.

  • Agricultural Engineering combines Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Chemical/Food Engineering.
  • This combination can be a drawback because you end up being neither a full Mechanical Engineer nor a full Civil Engineer.

When it comes to employment, Mechanical Engineering (like in the tractor industry) and Civil Engineering (especially in water and irrigation) are core competitors.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering offers a strong curriculum and high placement rates with about 88% of students getting placed, but the fees are quite steep, making it a hefty financial commitment. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Agricultural and Food Engineering plus M.Tech in Farm Machinery and Power might have a more affordable fee structure, providing a unique specialization that could lead to less competition and better job opportunities in a growing sector. If you're inclined towards electrical engineering and can manage the costs, IIT Delhi is a fantastic choice; however, if you're looking for value for money and a niche area with potential, IIT Kharagpur might be the smarter financial decision.

You need to clarify your goals before choosing between the two options.

  • If you want a good job with a decent package, then go for IIT Delhi B.Tech in Electrical Engineering.
  • However, if your aim is to crack civil services, IIT Kharagpur's Agricultural and Food Engineering followed by M.Tech in Farm Machinery and Power is a better choice, as you can take your branch as your optional subject.

There are many more options to consider:

  • You can work hard in your first year and upgrade your branch.
  • Start coding in your first or second year and aim for a job in IT companies, which are open to all.
  • Explore finance and management; you can prepare for CAT or GRE.
  • Consider research or higher studies if you find comfort in Agricultural Engineering.

Don’t judge any branch solely by its name. The IIT tag is significant, and graduating from IIT Kharagpur is an opportunity not to be missed.

Best Wishes!!

If you're confident in your ability to work hard and manage a department change after the first year, go for IIT Kharagpur.

Otherwise, choose IIT Delhi.

IIT Delhi for Electrical Engineering offers a robust curriculum and highly qualified faculty, plus a vibrant campus life with numerous clubs and events that enhance the overall experience. The placements seem promising, especially with top tech companies recruiting. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's Agricultural and Food Engineering plus M.Tech in Farm Machinery and Power provides a unique specialization but may not match the placement stats of IIT Delhi, and the faculty experience appears less engaging. If you're passionate about electrical engineering and want a lively campus with better placement opportunities, IIT Delhi is the clear choice. However, if you have a strong interest in agriculture and its technology, IIT Kharagpur could be a great fit.
