Instrumentation Engineering is regarded as a solid branch, and the curriculum is quite engaging. Many students find it aligns better with their needs than even Electrical Engineering.

  • There is a slight disadvantage in non-core placements when compared to IIT Delhi. Companies like Bain and AT Kearney do not recruit from IIT Kharagpur, but other opportunities in consulting and non-core sectors are still promising.
  • Interestingly, last year, Deutsche Bank did not have any interns from IIT Delhi, while it had five from IIT KGP. Statistics and figures can vary quite a bit.
  • Consulting firms typically do not hire during the placement season at IIT Kharagpur and are not restricted by the institute's administrative processes. They usually conduct their hiring in August and September. Their selection processes resemble those of other institutes, but they allow students with PPOs from internships to participate, which is not common elsewhere.

It's a slight advantage, but it's still a positive aspect!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering stands out for its highly qualified faculty and rigorous curriculum that fosters problem-solving skills, but it has a lower student-faculty ratio, which can make personal attention a bit challenging. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering offers a broader range of internship opportunities with top companies like Jane Street and Google, though the teaching quality might not be as impressive. Campus life is vibrant in both, but IIT Delhi edges ahead with better sports and cultural activities. If you're keen on a strong academic foundation and can handle larger class sizes, go for IIT Delhi; however, if you're looking for diverse internship options and a more relaxed teaching style, IIT Kharagpur might be your best bet.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering definitely seems to have an edge over IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering when it comes to placements and internships. IIT Delhi boasts around 88% placement rates, with reputed companies like Google and Samsung actively recruiting, while IIT Kharagpur also has its share of tech giants but may not match the intensity of IIT Delhi's campus recruitment. The rigorous curriculum at IIT Delhi prepares students well for these opportunities, fostering a strong problem-solving mindset, whereas IIT Kharagpur's teaching style appears to be more traditional and less engaging. For those who prioritize high placement prospects and a dynamic learning environment, IIT Delhi is the better choice, while IIT Kharagpur may suit those looking for a solid engineering foundation with slightly less competitive placement outcomes.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering has a strong reputation and decent placement rates, with around 88% of students getting placed through campus recruitment, but the fees are quite high, making it a significant financial burden. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering, despite a larger student-faculty ratio and perceived lower teaching quality, offers a broader range of internship opportunities with big names like Google and Samsung, potentially providing better ROI. If you can manage the fees and prefer a more structured academic environment, IIT Delhi might be worth it, but if you’re looking for a balance of cost and diverse opportunities, IIT Kharagpur could be the smarter financial choice.
