IIT Delhi for B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering has a higher fee structure, around 20 lakhs, but offers a strong curriculum in AI/ML and excellent placement opportunities with big tech companies like Amazon and Google. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur for B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering provides a more affordable experience with abundant internship opportunities and a solid focus on real-world applications. While both colleges have their strengths, IIT Kharagpur seems to offer better value for money with lower fees and a well-rounded campus life. If you're looking for a more economical route with good prospects, go for IIT Kharagpur; if you’re set on tech and can manage the higher investment, IIT Delhi might be worth it for the brand and placement edge.

IIT Delhi for B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering offers a strong curriculum focused on AI/ML and has excellent internship opportunities with top companies like Amazon and Google, which can lead to high-paying jobs. However, the fee structure is quite high, around 20 lakhs. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering has a solid curriculum with a good emphasis on real-world applications and substantial internship opportunities as well, but specifics about top company placements aren't as highlighted. If you are leaning towards the tech and AI field, IIT Delhi might provide better job prospects due to its reputation and industry connections. However, if you're more interested in electronics and want a slightly more affordable option with good opportunities, IIT Kharagpur is a great choice.

Several factors come into play here -

  • Interested in programming? Kgp CS!
  • Want a vibrant city life? Go for Delhi!
  • Package crazy? Kgp CS has you covered!
  • Not a fan of programming? Choose Delhi EE or something else. (EE also involves a significant amount of programming.)
  • Better extracurricular activities? Kgp wins!

The scope is pretty much the same for both. So, don’t stress! You can opt for Delhi EE. Put in the effort during the first year and aim to transition to Delhi CS (Delhi CS is top-notch for placements with big companies!).

Since you're asking this question, it seems you might not have specific interests yet. And often, even if you do have interests, they can be more like infatuations than true passions. So, here are your options based on your future plans:

  • If you’re considering a PhD, either choice works.
  • If you’re aiming for an MBA or UPSC, go for EE.
  • If you want to jump straight into a job after graduation, choose CSE.
  • If you plan to stay in India, CSE is the way to go. The IT industry here is in a much stronger position than the electrical engineering sector.

Both CSE and EE come with a heavy workload. In CSE, you might find ways to manage your workload more efficiently. Regardless of your choice, be prepared for tons of assignments and lab work.

All the best!

IIT Delhi offers a well-rounded curriculum for B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering, especially with a focus on AI/ML, which is super relevant today. The faculty is highly qualified, and the campus life is vibrant with plenty of extracurricular activities. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering also provides a solid education, but the campus atmosphere seems slightly less intense in terms of industry exposure and internships. While both colleges have great faculty and opportunities, I personally lean towards IIT Delhi for its cutting-edge curriculum and better internship prospects. If you're more into computer science and tech innovations, go for IIT Delhi; if you’re leaning towards electronics with a balance, IIT Kharagpur might suit you better.
