IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering offers fantastic internship opportunities with big names like Amazon and Google, which significantly boosts job prospects after graduation. The curriculum is well-structured for real-world applications, but the high fee structure could be a downside. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering also has a strong curriculum and good faculty support, but the internship offerings seem less prominent compared to IIT Delhi. Given the current job market, IIT Delhi edges out in terms of placements and career outcomes, making it a better choice for those focused on software roles and tech giants. If you're leaning towards a more software-centric career, go for IIT Delhi; however, if you're more interested in electronics and communication, IIT Kharagpur could still be a solid option.

IIT Delhi for B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering tends to offer a more lucrative ROI compared to IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering. Although the fee structure at IIT Delhi is higher, around 20 lakhs, the exposure to tech giants like Amazon and Google for internships is significantly greater, which can lead to higher-paying jobs. In contrast, while IIT Kharagpur also provides good opportunities, the computer science field is booming, making IIT Delhi a smarter financial choice if you're looking for job opportunities and industry connections.

If you're more inclined towards electronics, then Kharagpur is still a solid option, but for sheer value and potential earnings, IIT Delhi is hard to beat.

Many factors come into play here -

  • Interested in programming? Go for Kgp CS!
  • Want a vibrant city life? Choose Delhi!
  • Package obsessed? Kgp CS is the way!
  • Not a fan of programming? Opt for Delhi EE or something else. (EE also involves a good amount of programming.)
  • Better extracurricular activities? Kgp takes the lead!

The scope is pretty much similar for both. So, don’t stress! You can select Delhi EE. Study hard in the first year and aim to switch to Delhi CS (Delhi CS is top-notch for placements with big companies!).

IIT Delhi offers a fantastic environment for Computer Science with a strong curriculum that emphasizes AI/ML, and the faculty is highly qualified and supportive. The campus life is vibrant, with numerous extracurricular activities and fests, but the fee structure is quite high, around 20 lakhs. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering program also has a solid curriculum, but it seems to focus more on industry-relevant skills with abundant internship opportunities. The faculty there is also experienced, but the overall campus experience appears a bit more peaceful and less intense than IIT Delhi.

Personally, I would lean towards IIT Delhi for its cutting-edge tech courses and active campus life if you thrive in a competitive environment. However, if you prefer a balanced approach with solid internship prospects and a slightly less stressful atmosphere, IIT Kharagpur might be the better choice.

Since you’re asking this question, it seems you might not have specific interests yet. And often, even if you do have interests, they can be more of an infatuation than a true passion.

Here are your options based on your future plans:

  • 1. If you’re considering a PhD, either choice works.
  • 2. If you’re leaning towards an MBA or UPSC, go for EE.
  • 3. If you plan to jump into a job right after graduation, CSE is the way to go.
  • 4. If you want to stay in India, CSE is a better option. The IT industry here is much stronger compared to the electrical engineering sector.

Both CSE and EE come with a heavy workload. In CSE, you might find ways to manage your workload more effectively. Regardless, be prepared for a lot of assignments and lab work.

All the best!
