How do the placements really compare between IIT Delhi B.Tech Computer Science Engineering and IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Agricultural and Food Engineering + M.Tech Farm Machinery and Power ?

I'm not from the Agricultural and Food Engineering (AGFE) department, but I know some M.Tech. students who secured great jobs in top companies. While opportunities in AGFE may be fewer, IIT always has something to offer. Ultimately, it's up to you to shape your path and decide what you truly want.

• One student from the AGFE department, specializing in AGRI-BIO tech, is now working at a software company. He learned Python and got placed in the second phase of placements, currently earning 10.2 LPA.
• Another student from the Farm Machinery and Power specialization, with a CGPA of 7.5 in the final semester, is working with Mahindra at a package of 9.6 LPA. Interestingly, many of his classmates with CGPAs above 9.0 didn't get selected. He got selected with a CGPA of 7.0 in the third semester.

It's not always about the department; it's about what you make of it. The coursework at IIT Kharagpur is very flexible. If you're in AGFE and want to take a course in CSE, you can apply for it through the ERP portal.

In 2015, a total of 63 students from the Agricultural and Food Engineering (UG) program registered under the Career Development Centre (CDC) for placements. Out of these, only 33 students, or 52%, secured placements in the first phase, which concluded on December 18, 2015.

For M.Tech courses, the placement percentage is alarmingly low, with only 8 students, or 13%, placed out of 63 registered students.

Placement prospects for AGFE grads at IIT Kharagpur are generally not very promising, unless there has been a significant change in the last couple of years. Typically, B.Tech graduates in AGFE often find themselves in non-core jobs. Not much is known about M.Tech placements, but usually, most M.Tech graduates (except those in CS and ECE) tend to join other universities as teaching staff or pursue MS or PhD programs abroad.
