All the perks available to B.Tech students are also available to dual degree students. All the companies that recruit B.Tech graduates also consider them. Plus, you receive a stipend of Rs. 12,000 per month in your final year. So, why not spend an extra year to earn an additional degree?

However, if you’re not planning to stay in this field, then pursuing another degree might not be worthwhile.

Another point to consider is that Delhi is an amazing metro city with plenty of weekend getaway options. Manali, Shimla, Rishikesh are all nearby! I'm leaning towards IIT Delhi, and it's a good idea to connect with someone currently studying this course there. Just message me if you want an introduction!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering stands out for its strong placement opportunities, especially with top tech companies like Amazon and Google actively recruiting from the campus. The focus on AI/ML aligns well with future job trends, giving graduates a competitive edge in the job market. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech + M.Tech in Chemical Engineering may offer a broader academic qualification, but the job prospects in chemical engineering are generally more limited compared to the booming tech sector.

Both colleges provide good internship opportunities, but IIT Delhi's program seems to better prepare students for high-paying roles in high-demand fields. If you are inclined towards technology and want the best job prospects, opt for IIT Delhi; however, if you're passionate about chemical engineering and prefer a dual degree, IIT Kharagpur could be a good fit.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering offers a strong ROI, with a fee structure around 20 lakhs, but the high demand for tech jobs and excellent internship opportunities with top companies like Amazon and Google can justify the investment. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech + M.Tech in Chemical Engineering might be more appealing if you're looking for a dual degree, but the chemical field's job market can be more volatile. Both colleges provide quality education, but IIT Delhi's focus on cutting-edge tech like AI/ML and the vibrant campus life make it a smarter financial choice for those seeking immediate returns and a dynamic career path. I’d recommend opting for IIT Delhi if you're inclined towards tech, while IIT Kharagpur could be a better fit if you're passionate about chemical engineering and appreciate the dual degree advantage.

I faced the same dilemma you're experiencing now. I ultimately chose the 4-year program at IIT Kanpur, and I’m not disappointed, honestly. While I’m not fully aware of the situation for 5-year CSE students at IIT Delhi, it really comes down to whether you're willing to invest that extra year for a Master's degree, which, frankly, isn’t as impressive as some might think. But IIT Delhi is IIT Delhi, and IIT Kanpur is IIT Kanpur.

Here are some points to consider:

  • Talk to seniors: It’s a good idea to connect with students in the dual CSE course at Delhi to get their insights.
  • Course structure: The CSE course at Kanpur is well-designed, albeit a bit intense, but definitely interesting and true to its reputation.
  • Campus life: IIT Kanpur has a vast and impressive campus with a lot of freedom. The professors are top-notch, just like at IIT Delhi.
  • Common curriculum: Note that the first four years of the dual degree at IIT Delhi are common with the 4-year B.Tech course (please correct me if I’m wrong!).

If you're from Delhi, you might lean slightly towards IIT Delhi, or the opposite, depending on your preference for living arrangements.

IIT Delhi offers a stellar B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering with a strong focus on AI and ML, exceptional faculty, and abundant internship opportunities from top tech companies. The campus life is vibrant, with a good balance of academics and extracurricular activities. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech + M.Tech in Chemical Engineering provides a unique dual degree that can be advantageous for those interested in a specialized field, but it may lack the same level of industry exposure as IIT Delhi. If you're leaning towards a thriving tech career with a dynamic campus life, IIT Delhi is the clear choice; however, if you're passionate about chemical engineering and prefer a comprehensive study plan, IIT Kharagpur could be your path.
