IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering clearly stands out when it comes to placements, with tech giants like Amazon and Google actively recruiting students, while IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering may not have the same level of tech industry exposure. However, IIT Kharagpur offers a unique niche, especially for those passionate about marine engineering. Both colleges boast excellent faculty and vibrant campus life, but IIT Delhi has a more robust curriculum focused on AI/ML, which aligns with current job market demands. If you're aiming for a career in tech, IIT Delhi would be my pick; if you're more inclined towards naval engineering, IIT Kharagpur could be the right choice.

Two students studied OENA at IIT KGP. One is a successful analyst at CITIBANK after completing a dual degree in OENA + MBA from VGSOM while in college. The other is about to graduate from Harvard Business School.

What I’m trying to convey is that you can achieve success in OENA, but it's rare in the core field. Pursue OENA by all means, but consider switching to better opportunities. This generally applies to all branches at all colleges, except for CS.

Placement, internship, and job opportunities are not great right now.

There was a time when India produced hardly 50 Naval Architects, and the shipping market was thriving. Those days, Naval Architects had excellent placement prospects.

However, the shipping and offshore (oil and gas) market has crashed. There are no projects, and ships are lying idle. The market is so oversupplied that not only is building new ships a challenge, but even new ships are being sold at 30% of their original price or are being scrapped. Bharati Shipyard is bankrupt. ABG is bankrupt. Great Offshore is bankrupt.

To make matters worse, there are now nearly 1000 naval architects graduating every year in India. The competition is fierce.

You will get a job if you choose naval architecture at IIT Kharagpur. But it will likely be in a different industry, such as analytics, software, or marketing. Don’t expect to secure a good placement in the core industry if that’s your primary goal.

From my research, IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering clearly has an edge over IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering when it comes to placements and internships. IIT Delhi regularly attracts top tech companies like Amazon and Google, offering lucrative internships and job opportunities, which is a huge plus for CSE students. In contrast, while IIT Kharagpur has a solid reputation, the niche nature of Naval Architecture may limit the scope of high-paying tech jobs compared to the booming demand in computer science.

Therefore, if you're looking for better job/package prospects, IIT Delhi is the way to go, while IIT Kharagpur might be a good fit if you're passionate about naval engineering and its specific career paths.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering generally offers a stronger ROI compared to IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering. The tuition fees for IIT Delhi are around 20 lakhs, but the high demand for computer science graduates means better placement opportunities with top companies like Amazon and Google, which can lead to lucrative salaries. In contrast, while IIT Kharagpur has a solid program, the niche nature of naval architecture may limit job options, especially in a recession.

If you're looking for a more financially rewarding path, IIT Delhi is the smarter choice, but if you have a passion for ocean engineering and its unique challenges, IIT Kharagpur could be fulfilling despite the potential financial trade-off.
