IIT Delhi is the clear winner here.

Reasons include:

  • Better professors.
  • Higher calibre of batchmates.
  • Superior placement opportunities (trust me, many multinational corporations like Samsung Korea and Rubrik U.S. don’t visit IIT Kharagpur, but they regularly recruit from IIT Delhi for internships and placements).
  • More chances for pursuing further studies at top-tier international universities.

Additionally, IIT Delhi is located in the heart of Delhi (specifically South Delhi) and is conveniently close to the Delhi airport. There are plenty of restaurants, malls, theatres, and bars to enjoy on weekends.

In contrast, the nearest city to IIT Kharagpur is Kolkata, which is about 140 km away. The closest decent restaurant to IIT Kharagpur is a Domino’s outlet, and it doesn’t even deliver pizzas inside the campus!

Also, while I usually don’t put much stock in QS Rankings, it’s worth noting that they rank IIT Delhi higher than IIT Kharagpur.

Cheers!

IIT Delhi is likely better than IIT KGP for computer science! This isn't just bias; it's based on several factors:

  • We have some of the best professors in the country.
  • The facilities are top-notch.
  • There are excellent tie-ups to support startups and projects.
  • Many companies that don’t visit KGP for placements come to IIT Delhi!

These aspects contribute significantly to the overall placement experience.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering definitely offers a stronger return on investment compared to IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Industrial Engineering. While both colleges have a high fee structure, around 20 lakhs for IIT Delhi, the internship opportunities with major companies like Amazon and Google can lead to lucrative placements that significantly boost the overall financial outcome. IIT Kharagpur, while still reputable, doesn’t seem to match the same level of industry connections and cutting-edge curriculum in the tech field.

If you’re aiming for a career in tech and want to maximize your job prospects and salary potential, IIT Delhi is the smarter financial choice. However, if you’re drawn to industrial engineering and its applications, IIT Kharagpur is still a solid option, just with potentially lower financial returns.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering offers a cutting-edge curriculum with a strong emphasis on AI/ML, abundant internship opportunities with top companies like Amazon and Google, and a vibrant campus life that promotes extracurricular activities. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech in Industrial Engineering has a solid curriculum but may not provide the same level of industry exposure and tech-specific training as IIT Delhi. While both have excellent faculty, IIT Delhi edges ahead with its extensive connections in the tech industry. Personally, I'd recommend IIT Delhi for those keen on a tech-centric career, while IIT Kharagpur would be a good fit for students interested in the broader industrial sector.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering generally offers better placements and internships compared to IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Industrial Engineering, especially with tech giants like Amazon and Google actively recruiting from Delhi. The rigorous curriculum and strong industry connections at IIT Delhi prepare students well for high-paying roles, despite the current recession affecting job availability.

On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur does have a solid program, but the specific opportunities in industrial engineering may not match the tech-centric demand seen in computer science. I'd recommend IIT Delhi for those aiming for a career in tech, while IIT Kharagpur could be a great fit for someone interested in industrial applications and processes.
