IIT Delhi.
Reasons include:
Additionally, IIT Delhi is located in the heart of Delhi (South Delhi, to be precise) and is not far from the Delhi airport. There are plenty of restaurants, malls, theatres, and bars to enjoy on the weekends.
In contrast, the nearest city to IIT Kharagpur is Kolkata, which is around 140 km away. The closest decent restaurant to IIT Kharagpur is a Domino’s outlet, and it doesn’t even deliver pizzas inside the campus.
I usually don’t put much stock in QS Rankings, but you can rely on them when they rank IIT Delhi higher than IIT Kharagpur.
Cheers!
IIT Delhi is likely a better choice than IIT KGP for Computer Science! This isn't just because it's my institute, but for several reasons:
These factors can significantly enhance your learning and career opportunities!
IIT Delhi’s B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering definitely stands out with its robust curriculum focused on AI/ML and better internship opportunities with top tech companies like Amazon and Google, making it a great choice for those looking to dive into the software industry. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech in Industrial Engineering offers a balanced curriculum but might not provide the same level of exposure in tech-centric internships. Both colleges have excellent faculty, but IIT Delhi's faculty seems more accessible and supportive, which enhances the overall learning experience. If you’re more inclined towards software and technology, I’d recommend IIT Delhi; however, if you prefer a broader engineering approach with a focus on systems and processes, IIT Kharagpur might be the way to go.
Being in a metro, IIT Delhi offers better recreational activities and somewhat better placements.
Now, regarding CS vs Electrical:
When it comes to lifestyle, Delhi is definitely better. However, KGP has a unique charm that makes you feel at home—you won't want to leave!
You won't regret your choice! The placement record for CS at KGP is on par with Delhi and Bombay.
PS: I'm from KGP and in Instrumentation.
IIT Delhi’s B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering offers a more robust placement scene and higher internship opportunities with companies like Amazon and Google, making it a top pick if you're aiming for a tech career. The curriculum is well-structured for real-world applications, ensuring you're job-ready. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech in Industrial Engineering is also solid, but with a wider focus on industrial applications, it may not yield the same tech-oriented job packages. If you're fixed on a career in tech, go for IIT Delhi; if you're leaning towards industrial roles, IIT Kharagpur could be your choice, but keep in mind the tech market's current trend favors computer science graduates.
