Should I go for B.Tech Computer Science Engineering in IIT Delhi or B.Tech Electrical Engineering in IIT Kharagpur?

First off, telling someone who just finished 12th to “choose what interests you” isn’t very helpful since they might not have a clear idea yet.

They say Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi is the best in India. Plus, since you live in Delhi, that should make it an obvious choice. Personally, I’m pretty homesick and not very inclined towards coding.

I study Electrical Engineering and I genuinely enjoy it. I have no regrets about my decision. It’s not just about electricity and magnetism from 12th grade. It covers many fascinating topics like electrical machines, power systems and protection, power electronics (my favorite), drives, etc.

Yes, you’ll need to work hard because it’s one of the toughest branches. But remember, difficult and easy are relative terms. The subject becomes much easier once you fall in love with it, right?

Jobs in the core sector are quite good. They may not be the highest paying, but they can provide a decent lifestyle and you’ll enjoy what you do.

If you’re aiming for a career in the Government sector, Electrical Engineering is a great fit for you. The Engineering Services Examination (ESE) is a solid option!

On the other hand, while IIT Kharagpur has a solid curriculum and good placements, the overall experience seems a bit more subdued. If you're leaning towards a career in tech and want a lively campus atmosphere, go for IIT Delhi; however, if you're more interested in electronics with a steady approach, IIT Kharagpur would be a solid choice too.

• Prefer a vibrant city life? Choose Delhi!
• Looking for high packages? Kgp CS!
• Not a fan of programming? Go for Delhi EE or something else. (EE also includes a significant amount of programming.)
• Better extracurricular activities? Kgp!

The scope is pretty much similar for both fields, so don't stress too much. You can opt for Delhi EE, study hard in the first year, and then try to shift to Delhi CS (Delhi CS is top-notch when it comes to placements with big companies!).
