Which one should I opt for IIT Delhi B.Tech Computer Science Engineering or IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Electrical Engineering

IIT Delhi’s B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering offers a cutting-edge curriculum with a strong focus on AI/ML, leading to excellent internship opportunities with top companies like Amazon and Google, which can significantly boost your job prospects. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech in Electrical Engineering has a solid reputation, but the internship and placement data isn't as robust. While both colleges provide a good education and the IIT tag, the tech-driven nature of IIT Delhi’s program gives it an edge in terms of career outcomes. If you're leaning towards a future in tech with better job packages, IIT Delhi is the way to go; however, if you have a strong interest in electrical engineering and value a diverse skill set, IIT Kharagpur is also a great choice.

Though I’m not from an IIT, I believe I can still provide some insights.

First off, saying “choose what interests you” isn’t very helpful for someone fresh out of 12th grade since they might not have a clear idea yet.

They say Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi is the best in India. Plus, since you live in Delhi, that should be an obvious choice if I were in your position. Personally, I get homesick easily and I’m not very inclined towards coding.

I study Electrical Engineering and I genuinely enjoy it; I have no regrets about my decision. It’s not just about electricity and magnetism from 12th grade. It covers many fascinating topics like electrical machines, power systems and protection, power electronics (my favorite), drives, etc.

Yes, it requires hard work as it’s considered one of the toughest branches. But remember, difficult and easy are relative. The subject becomes much easier once you develop a passion for it. Right?

Jobs in the core sector are quite good. They may not always be high-paying, but they can certainly provide a decent lifestyle, and you’ll enjoy what you do.

If you’re aiming for a career in the Government sector, Electrical Engineering is a solid choice for you. The Engineering Services Examination (ESE) is a great pathway!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering comes with a higher fee structure, around 20 lakhs, but offers robust internship opportunities with top companies like Amazon and Google, making it a strong option for ROI if you're inclined towards tech. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering has a more moderate fee structure and also provides good campus life and faculty support but might not have the same level of tech-centric placements. If you're more interested in AI/ML and the booming tech sector, IIT Delhi is the smarter financial choice; however, if you prefer a broader engineering focus with potentially lower immediate costs, IIT Kharagpur could be more suitable. Ultimately, consider where your passion lies and the kind of opportunities you want post-graduation.

Several factors come into play here -

• Interested in programming? Kgp CS!
• Prefer a vibrant city life? Choose Delhi!
• Obsessed with high packages? Kgp CS!
• Not a fan of programming? Go for Delhi EE or another option. (EE also involves a good amount of programming.)
• Better extracurricular activities? Kgp!

The scope is pretty much similar for both fields, so don't stress too much. You can opt for Delhi EE, study hard in the first year, and then aim to switch to Delhi CS (Delhi CS is top-notch for placements with big companies!).

Personally, I'd recommend IIT Delhi for those looking to dive into cutting-edge tech fields like computer science, while IIT Kharagpur might suit students more inclined towards traditional engineering disciplines with a strong electrical focus.
