IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Civil Engineering and IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering both offer strong academic foundations, but they cater to different interests and career paths. The faculty at IIT Delhi is highly qualified, focusing on encouraging self-learning, while IIT Kharagpur has a reputation for excellent placement opportunities, particularly in tech and finance, with many leading companies recruiting from there. Although IIT Delhi has a vibrant campus life with great facilities and extracurricular activities, IIT Kharagpur edges ahead in placement statistics, especially in tech roles. Personally, I would recommend IIT Kharagpur for those leaning towards a tech career due to its higher placement rates, while IIT Delhi suits those who prefer civil engineering and a well-rounded campus experience.

More than what is better, think about what resonates with you. IITs have international-level accreditation. B.Tech Electrical Engineering students can pursue M.Tech in Computer Science, but not the other way around in most universities.

  • All Non-Computer Engineering students study some level of computer concepts.
  • Strictly speaking, Electrical Engineering includes some computer learning, while the reverse is not true.

Choose based on your future plans, if you have any. Good luck and cheers!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech Civil Engineering program offers a good ROI considering the placement statistics, with around 1000 offers from major companies like Google and Amazon, though the highest package is a notable Rs.2.65 crore. In comparison, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech Electrical Engineering program also boasts strong placements, but tends to have a higher average package due to the high demand for electrical engineers. While both colleges have similar fee structures around Rs.12-13 lakh for general students, IIT Delhi's slightly lower overall costs for certain categories make it a smarter financial choice for those in need of scholarships. Ultimately, if you're passionate about civil engineering and value a vibrant campus life, choose IIT Delhi; but if you’re leaning towards electrical engineering and want potentially higher packages, IIT Kharagpur might be your best bet.
