Which one should I opt for IIT Delhi B.Tech Civil Engineering or IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Electrical Engineering

Honestly, if placements are a major concern, you’d be better off choosing DTU Computer Science over any core branch. Opportunities in core branches are quite limited.

IIT Delhi Civil Engineering:

• It’s an overall academically relaxed department.
• Known for hosting the best dinners and meetings.
• Offers a pathway into civil services (many students pursue this).
• Opportunities in consulting (you need to build the right profile).
• Some students land product management and marketing roles.
• Software engineering jobs are available, but nothing too fancy.

IIT Kharagpur Electrical Engineering:

• It’s a challenging institute with a tough grading scheme.
• However, placement-wise, it’s pretty decent—at least on par or better than IIT Delhi Civil.

I don’t have much knowledge about the computational branch at IIT Hyderabad, and I’m skeptical if there is one.

IIT Delhi for B.Tech in Civil Engineering and IIT Kharagpur for B.Tech in Electrical Engineering both have their merits, but when it comes to fees and return on investment, IIT Delhi stands out. If you're leaning towards a career in the tech sector or consulting, IIT Delhi may be the smarter financial choice. However, if you're more inclined towards electrical engineering and its diverse applications, IIT Kharagpur offers a respected program as well. Overall, I’d recommend IIT Delhi for better financial value and placement opportunities, especially if you're interested in civil engineering.

Go for the following priorities:

• 1. IIT Hyderabad - Computational. This will lead to an excellent, high-paying job in the IT sector!
• 2. IIT Kanpur - Mechanical. This will also ensure a good, high-paying job in the Mechanical sector. Plus, you can land a job in the IT sector since IT companies allow students from all branches to participate in their placement processes.
• 3. IIT Delhi - Civil. You may not secure a very high-paying job in the Civil sector.

IIT Delhi for Civil Engineering and IIT Kharagpur for Electrical Engineering both offer strong programs, but they cater to different interests and career paths. IIT Delhi has a rigorous curriculum with a focus on self-learning and highly qualified faculty, which is great if you're into a collaborative learning environment. Personally, I'd recommend IIT Kharagpur if you're looking for a dynamic campus life with robust industry connections, while IIT Delhi is perfect if you prefer a more traditional engineering approach with a focus on foundational knowledge in Civil Engineering. Choose based on where your passion lies!

I would definitely recommend going for IITs! They offer fantastic opportunities for research and placements. You can even apply for M.Tech and PhD programs without needing to take the GATE or go through placement interviews in many PSUs.

Also, IIT Hyderabad is now on par with the older IITs, so there’s not much difference in quality. Just make sure to check if hostel accommodations are available for students at the IIT Hyderabad campus.
