I would lean towards B.Tech Computer Science Engineering in IIT Kharagpur over B.Tech Civil Engineering in IIT Delhi. While IIT Delhi has a strong faculty and a rigorous curriculum, IIT Kharagpur tends to have a broader range of opportunities in tech with placements from top companies like Google and Amazon, and the potential for higher salary packages. Campus life at IIT Kharagpur seems vibrant with significant extracurricular activities and events, giving a well-rounded experience. If you're more inclined towards technology and innovative fields, IIT Kharagpur is the way to go; however, if you're passionate about civil engineering and its applications, IIT Delhi is still a fantastic option.

I think going for B.Tech Computer Science Engineering in IIT Kharagpur is a smarter financial choice compared to B.Tech Civil Engineering in IIT Delhi. While both colleges have excellent faculty and facilities, IIT Kharagpur offers better placement opportunities with tech giants like Google and Amazon, resulting in higher salaries—some going up to 2.65 crore. In terms of fees, IIT Delhi’s total cost is around 12-13 lakh for non-reserved category students, while the fees at Kharagpur might be similar but with potentially higher returns on investment due to strong placements in tech.

If you're passionate about civil engineering and value the IIT Delhi experience, go for it; otherwise, the tech boom in computer science at Kharagpur could yield better financial stability and career growth.

Being a metro city, IIT Delhi offers better recreational activities and decent placement opportunities.

Now, regarding CS vs Electrical:

  • If you're aiming for a high-salary job, go for CS.
  • If you're interested in core engineering and circuits, opt for Electrical.
    • In Delhi, Electrical combines electronics and instrumentation and control, making it a strong option.

When it comes to lifestyle, Delhi is great, but KGP feels like home. You won't want to leave!

  • Unlimited internet downloads from DC++
  • Plenty of co-curricular activities
  • Numerous societies

You won't regret your choice! The placement records for CS at KGP are on par with those at Delhi and Bombay.

PS: I'm from KGP and in Instrumentation.

I would say that B.Tech Computer Science Engineering in IIT Kharagpur generally offers better job and package prospects compared to B.Tech Civil Engineering in IIT Delhi. IIT Kharagpur has a strong track record with big tech companies like Google and Amazon actively recruiting from their campus, and the placement statistics reflect that with high salary packages and a large number of offers. While IIT Delhi has its own merits, such as a highly qualified faculty and a decent placement rate, the opportunities in tech and consultancy at Kharagpur seem to be more lucrative. If you're leaning towards a career in tech and want higher salary potential, go for IIT Kharagpur. However, if you have a strong passion for civil engineering, IIT Delhi can still provide a solid foundation, but keep in mind the industry dynamics.
