IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Chemical Engineering offers a robust curriculum with a strong focus on core engineering subjects, great faculty-to-student ratio, and excellent placement opportunities, with 85% of students getting placed in top companies like Amazon and Google. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering also has a solid program but may not have the same level of high-profile recruiters as IIT Delhi. The campus life at IIT Delhi seems vibrant with numerous extracurricular activities and a well-equipped library, providing a more enriching student experience. Personally, I would choose IIT Delhi for its superior placement prospects and overall campus life, especially if you prioritize immediate job opportunities after graduation. IIT Kharagpur might be a great fit if you're more inclined towards the instrumentation field and prefer a different campus culture.

I would recommend the following preference order:

  • 1. IIT KGP Instrumentation (This branch is circuital, which means more opportunities for you!)
  • 2. IIT D Chemical Eng. (Chemical Engineering is also a solid choice, especially at IIT Delhi.)
  • 3. IIT D Eng Physics (Engineering Physics is known to be quite challenging in IITs, so it ranks below Chemical.)
  • 4. IIT Mandi CS (Prioritize the college over the branch. It wouldn’t be wise to leave IIT D just for CS!)

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Chemical Engineering offers a solid curriculum with strong placement opportunities, boasting 85% placement rates and top companies like Amazon and Google recruiting there. The tuition fees are manageable with various scholarships available, especially for those from lower income brackets. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering may also have good prospects, but the specifics on placement rates and scholarship details aren’t as robust as IIT Delhi's. Given the ROI and better campus placement prospects, I would recommend opting for IIT Delhi for Chemical Engineering if you're focused on maximizing your financial returns after graduation.

Only you can decide what’s best for you. If you’re open to options, here’s my take:

  • IIT KGP Instrumentation Engineering
  • IIT D-Engineering Physics
  • IIT D Chemical Engineering.

Instrumentation is an excellent branch, but it really depends on your interests!

Both IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Chemical Engineering and IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering boast solid placements, but IIT Delhi edges ahead with 85% of its students getting placed in top companies like Amazon and Google, showcasing its strong industry connections. IIT Kharagpur, while also reputable, doesn't have the same level of placement data available, which makes it harder to gauge its job prospects. If you prioritize robust campus recruitment and a wider array of job offers, IIT Delhi would be the better choice. However, if you have a keen interest in instrumentation and related fields, IIT Kharagpur is still a great option but may not offer the same high package potential as Delhi.
