Jadavpur University is indeed a great choice for a B.Tech degree, but I would recommend opting for NIT Trichy. Here are my reasons:

  • NIT Trichy has a stronger brand value across India and even internationally. People in the western and southern parts of India may not view JU as being on the same level as NIT Trichy.
  • Since your home state is West Bengal, studying away from home will provide you with numerous learning opportunities. You'll gain experiences not just academically, but also in managing life and making decisions independently. If you're not prone to homesickness, NIT Trichy is the way to go!
  • NIT Trichy attracts students from all over India, which is not the case with JU. You'll have the chance to interact with peers from Kashmir and learn about South Indian languages. You'll discover why Gujaratis name their snacks "atom bombs" and delve into the culture of Nagaland. This diversity is not something JU offers.

My assumption here is that you're considering the same branch in both colleges. If that's not the case, choose the institute that offers you the better branch.

. All the best! :)

Moderate placement and diverse opportunities for higher studies—that's Production Engineering for you. Out of 16 engineering departments in JU, Production is currently ranked 8th (as per WBJEE rank cut-off). So, it's definitely not a lower-tier department.

Choose JU over any private college (regardless of branch) any day!

Adding to this answer (on 22.02.2021): Now working as a Data Analytics Consultant at PwC India, a role that many CSE grads aspire to. However, PwC only recruits from select colleges in WB: JU, NIT DGP, IIEST Shibpur, and IIT KGP. Production Engineering students from JU get recruited by PwC every year with impressive packages. For more information on Production Engineering placements and opportunities, check out the Facebook page of the department: 'JU Production Engg Placements.'

NIT Trichy for B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering generally offers better placement opportunities compared to Jadavpur University’s BE in Production Engineering. The strong industry connections at NIT Trichy lead to internships and placements with top tech firms, which is a huge plus for your career prospects. While Jadavpur has a decent curriculum and campus life, the focus on practical applications and industry readiness at NIT Trichy makes it a more attractive option for those aiming for high-paying jobs.

If you’re serious about maximizing your job/package potential, NIT Trichy is the way to go; however, if you have a specific interest in production engineering and prefer Jadavpur's environment, that could also be a fulfilling choice.

I think the choice between NIT Trichy for B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Jadavpur University for BE in Production Engineering ultimately comes down to financial implications and return on investment. NIT Trichy has a solid reputation and offers good placement opportunities with numerous tech giants, which can lead to a high ROI despite its fees of around Rs.60,000 per semester plus hostel costs. Jadavpur University, while also prestigious, may not have the same level of campus recruitment for Production Engineering, which could affect future earnings. Both universities offer scholarships, but NIT Trichy's fee waivers for economically weaker students seem more inclusive. If you prioritize strong placements and career prospects, NIT Trichy is the smarter financial choice, while Jadavpur might suit those more interested in a specific field of study without as much emphasis on immediate job outcomes.

NIT Trichy’s B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering offers a curriculum deeply linked to real-world applications, which is a huge plus if you're into practical learning, while Jadavpur University’s BE in Production Engineering seems to have a more traditional approach, possibly lacking in practical exposure. The campus life at NIT Trichy is vibrant with various cultural and technical events, making it more engaging, whereas Jadavpur might not have the same level of extracurricular activities. Faculty interaction seems better at NIT Trichy, as the review indicates a lack of engagement at Jadavpur. Personally, I'd recommend NIT Trichy for those who want a dynamic campus experience and strong industry connections, while Jadavpur could be a choice if you prefer a solid engineering foundation with a focus on production.
