Jadavpur University is indeed a great institute for a B.Tech degree, no doubt about that. However, I would recommend choosing NIT Trichy. Here are my reasons:

• NIT Trichy has a stronger brand value across India and even internationally. People in the western and southern parts of India may not view JU as being on the same level as NIT Trichy.
• Since your home state is West Bengal, studying away from home will provide you with numerous learning opportunities and experiences—not just academically, but also in life skills, decision-making, and independence. If you can handle being away from home, NIT Trichy is a great choice.
• NIT Trichy attracts students from all over India, which is not the case with JU. You will have the chance to interact with students from Kashmir and learn about South Indian languages. You'll discover why Gujaratis name their snacks "atom bombs" and gain insights into the culture of Nagaland. This diversity is not something you will find at JU.

My assumption in this comparison is that you are considering the same branch at both colleges. If that’s not the case, then opt for the institute that offers you the better branch.

• Study at Jadavpur University (JU). The low fees won't strain your or your parents' finances. Later, you can appear for CAT and pursue an MBA. Secure a high-paying job. You're set!
• Consider a private engineering college. You might land an IT job. But honestly, you can achieve the same from JU too. So, there's really no point in going to private colleges.
• JU is one of the few institutions in India (along with maybe one or two IITs) that teaches printing technology. If you study hard, you’ll likely get placed in a newspaper company.
• Another option, which is a bit pricier, is to pursue IT at Jadavpur. IT graduates often have the chance to sit for interviews with large IT companies alongside CS students, and in many cases, IT students secure decent jobs.
