Jadavpur University is undoubtedly a great choice for a BTech degree. However, I would recommend opting for NIT Trichy. Here are my reasons:

  • NIT Trichy has a stronger brand value across India and even internationally. People in the western and southern parts of India may not view JU as being on the same level as NIT Trichy.
  • Since your home state is West Bengal, studying away from home will provide you with numerous learning opportunities and experiences—not just academically, but also in terms of life skills, decision-making, and independence. If you’re not prone to homesickness, NIT Trichy is the way to go!
  • NIT Trichy attracts students from all over India, which is not the case with JU. You’ll have the chance to interact with peers from Kashmir and pick up some South Indian languages. You’ll also get to understand quirky cultural references, like why Gujaratis call their snacks "atom bombs," and learn about the rich culture of Nagaland. This diversity isn’t something you’ll find at JU.

This comparison assumes you’re considering the same branch at both institutions. If that’s not the case, choose the institute that offers you the better branch.

All the best! :)

NIT Trichy for B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering has a strong reputation for placements, with many tech giants visiting for recruitment, which provides great job prospects and internships. In comparison, Jadavpur University’s BE in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering also has decent placement opportunities, but it might not match the scale and frequency of companies visiting NIT Trichy. NIT Trichy gives more exposure with its various tech events and projects that can enhance your resume significantly. If you’re aiming for top-tier job packages, NIT Trichy is likely the better option, while Jadavpur is solid if you prefer a more intimate environment with less competitive pressure.

If you're getting ETCE in Jadavpur, I recommend waiting and hoping for an upgrade to CSE in the next rounds. If you do get CSE, take it over the others any day! Its average placement is likely around twice that of NIT Trichy.

If you only get ETCE in JU, then Electrical in NIT Trichy is the better choice. Placement-wise, they may be similar, but the NIT tag will tip the balance in its favor.

Don't get me wrong; I have immense respect for IIEST, but the placement stats seem a bit shaky. Plus, I've heard the infrastructure isn't up to par. That might change in 4-5 years with its new INI status, but you can't be sure. It's best not to take risks.

Regarding the peer group, NIT Trichy will have students from all over India, while JU will mostly have students from a predominantly Bengali background. IIEST will have students from West Bengal and other states due to its quota system. So, you'll likely learn more about different cultures at NIT Trichy, which can help develop your personality.

As for faculty, I don't have much insight on that.

When considering placements, brand value, graduation experience, and peer group, the ranking could be as follows:

  • 1. BITS Pilani
  • 2. NIT Trichy
  • 3. Jadavpur University (equal in some branches)
  • 4. Anna University.

I encourage you to research each of these colleges based on the parameters mentioned above. Don’t overlook a better college just because it’s a state university. Many students have spent time working with people from top colleges, and it’s clear that a better college holds more value than just a name. JU and Anna University are well-regarded by industry professionals. Sure, your neighbor in Delhi might not know them, but ultimately, they aren’t the ones hiring you!

Honestly, I'd lean towards NIT Trichy for B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering over Jadavpur University for BE in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. NIT Trichy has a more hands-on curriculum that aligns with real-world applications, plus solid internship and placement opportunities with top tech companies, which is a huge plus for future job prospects. While Jadavpur University has its strengths, like a vibrant campus life, I feel that the interaction with faculty and overall support system might not be as strong as at NIT Trichy. So, if you're aiming for a blend of practical experience and job readiness, NIT Trichy would be my pick, while those who prioritize a rich cultural experience might find Jadavpur University more appealing.
