If you’re getting ETCE at Jadavpur University, I’d recommend waiting and hoping for an upgrade to CSE in the next rounds. If you do get CSE, take it without a second thought! The average placement is likely double that of NIT Trichy.

If you only get ETCE at JU, then Electrical at NIT Trichy is the better choice. Placement-wise, they might be similar, but the NIT tag will definitely tip the balance in its favor.

Don’t get me wrong; I have a lot of respect for IIEST, but the placement stats seem a bit shaky. Plus, I’ve heard the infrastructure isn’t quite up to par. That could change in 4-5 years with its new INI status, but it’s a risk you might not want to take.

Peer group-wise, NIT Trichy will have students from all over India, while JU will primarily have students from a Bengali background. IIEST will have students from West Bengal and other states due to its quota system. So, you’ll likely experience more cultural diversity at NIT Trichy, which can help develop your personality.

As for faculty, I can’t provide much insight on that.

NIT Trichy’s Electrical and Electronics Engineering program offers strong placement opportunities, with tech giants frequently recruiting from campus and internships being readily available, which can lead to solid job offers. In contrast, Jadavpur University’s BE in Electrical Engineering has a good reputation, but the placement stats may not match the frequency of on-campus recruitment seen at NIT Trichy. While Jadavpur provides a decent learning environment, NIT Trichy edges ahead with its robust industry connections and internship opportunities that significantly boost career prospects. If you're focused on strong job packages and better placement chances, NIT Trichy would be the smarter choice, while Jadavpur might suit those who prioritize a different academic experience.

When considering factors like placements, brand value, graduation experience, and peer group, the ranking could be as follows:

  • 1. BITS Pilani
  • 2. NIT Trichy
  • 3. Jadavpur University (equal in some branches)
  • 4. Anna University

I encourage you to conduct your own research on each of these colleges based on the parameters mentioned above. Don’t overlook a better college just because it’s a state university. Many students have spent considerable time working with individuals from top colleges, and it’s clear that a better college holds more value than just a name. JU and Anna University are well-recognized by industry professionals. Your neighbor in Delhi might not know them, but ultimately, she isn’t the one hiring you, right?

Jadavpur University is undoubtedly a great choice for a B.Tech degree. However, I would recommend opting for NIT Trichy. Here are my reasons:

  • NIT Trichy has a stronger brand value across India and even internationally. Many in the western and southern parts of India may not view JU as being on the same level as NIT Trichy.
  • Since your home state is West Bengal, studying away from home will provide you with numerous learning opportunities. You'll gain experiences that extend beyond academics, including life skills, decision-making, and independence. If you're not worried about homesickness, NIT Trichy is the way to go!
  • NIT Trichy attracts students from all over India, unlike JU. This means you'll have the chance to interact with peers from Kashmir and learn about South Indian languages. You'll also discover the unique culture of different regions, like why Gujaratis name their snacks "atom bombs" and the traditions of Nagaland. Such diversity is less prevalent at JU.
  • This comparison assumes you're considering the same branch at both colleges. If that's not the case, choose the institute that offers you a better branch.

All the best :)

NIT Trichy for B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering is a solid choice if you're looking for a strong ROI and better placement opportunities, especially with tech giants recruiting regularly. The fees are quite reasonable, and there are good scholarship options for economically weaker students, making it affordable. Jadavpur University's BE in Electrical Engineering also has a decent reputation, but the lack of detailed information on placements and scholarships makes it harder to gauge its financial viability.

Overall, if you want a more secure financial investment with a clear path to employment, NIT Trichy is the smarter financial choice. If you have a strong preference for the local culture and are drawn to Jadavpur University, be prepared for potentially less robust placement support.
