When considering placements, brand value, graduation experience, and peer group, the ranking could be as follows:

  • 1. BITS Pilani
  • 2. NIT Trichy
  • 3. Jadavpur University (equal in some branches)
  • 4. Anna University.

I encourage you to research each of these colleges based on the parameters mentioned above. Don't overlook a better college just because it's a state university. Many professionals have worked with graduates from top colleges, and it's clear that a better college holds more value than just a name. JU and Anna University are well-regarded by industry insiders. Your neighbor in Delhi may not recognize them, but ultimately, she isn't the one hiring you, right?

Jadavpur University is definitely a solid choice for a BTech degree, no doubt about it. However, I would recommend you opt for NIT Trichy. Here are my reasons:

  • NIT Trichy holds more brand value across India and even internationally. Many in the western and southern parts of India may not view JU as being on the same level as NIT Trichy.
  • Since your home state is West Bengal, studying away from home will provide you with a wealth of learning experiences—not just academically, but also in terms of life skills, decision-making, and independence. If you’re not prone to homesickness, NIT Trichy is the way to go.
  • NIT Trichy attracts students from all over India. This is not the case with JU. You’ll have the chance to interact with peers from Kashmir, learn about South Indian languages, and understand unique cultural aspects, like why Gujaratis name their snacks “atom bombs” or the culture of Nagaland. This diversity is less pronounced at JU.
  • My assumption in this comparison is that you’re considering the same branch at both colleges. If that’s not the case, choose the institute that offers you the better branch.

. All the best! :)

Looking at the fees and ROI, NIT Trichy for B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering seems like the smarter financial choice compared to Jadavpur University for BE in Civil Engineering. NIT Trichy's academic fees are around 60,000 per semester, with significant scholarship options for economically weaker students, which can even lead to full fee waivers. The opportunities for internships and placements with tech giants are also solid, enhancing its value for money. In contrast, Jadavpur's offerings might not match the same level of industry connection and financial assistance, making it less attractive. If you're looking for better placement prospects and financial support, NIT Trichy is the way to go; however, if you have a strong passion for civil engineering and prefer Jadavpur's unique culture, it could still be a good fit.

NIT Trichy for B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering offers a curriculum that ties closely to real-world applications, which is great for practical learning, but the faculty interaction could be better. In contrast, Jadavpur University's BE in Civil Engineering might provide a more traditional academic experience, and while details are less specific, it's known for a vibrant campus life with active cultural and technical events. Both colleges have good placement records, but NIT Trichy tends to attract more tech giants. Personally, I'd lean towards NIT Trichy for its stronger industry connections and practical focus, especially if you're interested in a tech-oriented career. However, if you have a passion for civil engineering and a strong preference for campus activities, Jadavpur University would be a solid choice.

If you're getting ETCE in Jadavpur, I recommend waiting and hoping for an upgrade to CSE in the next rounds. If you do get CSE, take it without hesitation! The average placement is likely double that of NIT Trichy.

If you end up with only ETCE in JU, then Electrical in NIT Trichy is the better choice. Placement-wise, they might be similar, but the NIT tag will give you an edge.

Don't get me wrong; I have great respect for IIEST, but their placement stats look a bit shaky. Plus, I've heard their infrastructure isn't up to par. This might change in 4-5 years with the new INI status, but that's uncertain. It's best not to take risks.

Peer group-wise, NIT Trichy will have students from all over India, while JU will mainly have students from a Bengali background. IIEST will have students from West Bengal and other states due to its quota system. You'll likely learn more about different cultures at NIT Trichy, which can help develop your personality.

As for faculty, I can't provide much insight there.
