If you're looking to join the B.Des course at DTU, make sure your UCEED rank is under 200 for the general category. Having a Delhi quota can be a game-changer because it can allow you to get in with a rank under 1000. The competition is tough, but the experience and opportunities you get here are amazing, especially in the design field.

To get into the B.Des program at DTU, you need to clear the UCEED exam, and ideally, you should aim for a rank under 200 in the general category. If you have Delhi quota, you're in luck—you might even get in with a rank under 1000. I'm currently in my first year, and I can say that getting into DTU's design program is definitely worth it!

If you're genuinely passionate about design, you might want to reconsider DTU. It’s not the best choice for design education. Here are some points to consider:

  • Students with ranks up to 5,000 based on UCEED are studying there.
  • There’s an 80% reservation for Delhi students, which complicates things further.
  • Many students lack a solid understanding of design.

If you truly want to build a career in design, this might not be the right place. You could end up graduating with little to show for it. Don’t waste your money! There are better design colleges out there, like MIT ID Pune, Srishti Bangalore, and ISDI Mumbai. Do your research and explore your options!

So, the cutoff rank for B.Des at DTU is pretty competitive. You need to score under 200 in the UCEED exam if you're from the general category. If you're a Delhi resident, you may have a better chance with a rank below 1000. Trust me, the design program here is excellent, and it opens up a lot of doors for you in the industry!

The cutoff for UCEED for General candidates was 100 marks. The last admitted General category student at DTU had a score of just 102 marks, which likely corresponds to a 5k rank. Many students weren't able to secure good ranks in engineering entrance exams, so they opted for DTU mainly for its brand name. They didn't seem to care about the future opportunities available after completing the B.Des. You might wonder why there's a negative perspective on the B.Des program at DTU… Well, I left the B.Des program at DTU myself. The course offered 60 seats, yet 10 were still vacant even after the 2nd round!

EDIT - It's generally easier for Delhi candidates to get admitted to DTU for this course, but the same cannot be said for Outside-Delhi students.
