DTU is well-known for its technical courses. I checked the website, and it doesn’t provide much information about the design department. If you have the option to join a reputed design institute, go for it! Otherwise, DTU can be a choice. You can also intern at IIT. Always stay connected with design students from different colleges!

At DTU, the total cost of the B.Des program is estimated to be between 15 to 16 lakhs over four years. You’ll pay around 2.5 lakhs each year for tuition, plus about 80,000 for hostel accommodation and 40-50 thousand for food. It might seem like a hefty amount, but the quality of education and campus life makes it quite a valuable experience!

The total cost for the B.Des program at DTU is around 15 to 16 lakhs for the entire 4 years. Each year, the fee is approximately 2.5 lakhs, and then you have to factor in the hostel charges, which are about 80,000 per year, plus food expenses of around 40 to 50 thousand. So yeah, it adds up, but the experience and opportunities here are worth it!

This paragraph was written on 18–12-2020. DTU, formally known as Delhi College of Engineering, has started offering B.Des now. Many people here are saying it's new, so don’t join. But remember, everything was new at some point! In India, there’s a lack of design colleges. Students struggle and prepare for design colleges for 2 to 3 years, and still, many don’t get in. They often think there are only NID and IIT. The competition is huge, making it nearly impossible for colleges to judge accurately. For example, if you were asked to draw the same thing twice, you’d get different results. So, can you really judge yourself so minutely on parameters like light, shading, shapes, etc.? It’s about design, not fine arts.

What you want from a design college:

  • FACULTIES: You’ll be learning from IITians, NIDians, and professors from architecture and world-class institutions like the Royal College of Art, UK. (Check the brochure!) They are truly exceptional. You can find your gurus here.
  • VALUE: You will receive a degree from a reputable institution that is gaining recognition in the design field.

If you're planning to pursue B.Des at DTU, expect to spend roughly 15 to 16 lakhs for the complete course duration. The tuition fee is about 2.5 lakhs per year, and don’t forget the hostel fees of around 80,000 annually and food costs of 40 to 50 thousand. It's a decent investment considering the good placements and internships you'll get!
