Dr. Vinay Kumar Gupta is the Head of the Public Health Dentistry department at King George’s Medical University. He holds a doctoral degree in Dentistry. His areas of expertise include Fluorosis, Tobacco, Preventive Dentistry, Screening of Oral Cancer, School Oral Health Program, and Oral Health Education. He has over 20 years of experience in the teaching field and has published 27 papers in national and international journals.

What is the latest program that you are offering in your institute/ dept. which will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?

We are offering programs in our department like Bachelor of Dental Surgery(BDS), Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) and Ph.D. program. The Basis of our department is public dentistry. We generally deal with the community where we provide awareness programs about dentistry and how they can prevent dental diseases so that they do not face much problem in the future.


What factors make this program the best for the students to opt for ?

Generally, in this program we are offering treatment in the clinic especially in the outreach activity in outreach satellite centers like Banthra Sarojini Nagar and we have a mobile dental van which goes to different places and provides treatment and has made people aware.


What are the best practices in the course you’re offering?

We help people in quitting tobacco which we called tobacco cessation we also have tooth brushing room through which we teach people how to do tooth brushing in front of the mirror we also teach students how to organize outreach activities so that the general committee can get benefits.


What are some valuable insights of the program that you are offering at your institute/ dept.?

In this program we are providing academically, clinically and research to under graduates and post graduates so that the student performs well after leaving here.


How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?

We are providing academic, research and clinical and even outreach situations so they can perform in a society for the future purposes.

How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students?

We are having a standard format for the class as well as clinical training for the faculty so that they can deliver in the proper way to the students.


How do you tend to build an industry connection with this program?

So our students are also trained with the research especially clinical trial so they can go in medical industries also and trained for clinical thing so they can perform in corporates.


What were the challenges that you faced while inculcating this program in your curriculum?

As our department is mainly concerned with the community outreach activity where a lot of funds are required for the department so most of the time we are depending on NGOs for performing outreach activity if we get funds from the CSR fund so we can perform in a much better way.


What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this program?

Having research projects, outreach projects, community-based projects so students will be able to work during internships especially.


What are the benefits and career options after pursuing this course?

They can perform in a clinical setting and also they can open clinics , they can go into research as well as faculty in different institutions.
